"Why don't you people do something about this" This is an American problem and until we view and treat it as an American problem it's not going away.

The same with the war on drugs. When it was Black and Latino people being afflicted by scourge of drugs White America ignored it. Now what do we have now. Drugs have streamed into White America like the plague. There are many reasons for this but there is a lesson to be learned. The lesson is we're all in this together. Nobody is going anywhere. We need to start looking at these issues not as Black, Latino or White issues. These are American issues and need to be dealt with from that perspective.

So when the racists jump up and scream about those "Black people and their crime" You need to understand that this is an American prolbem and either we solve it together or be prepared when little Meagan and her friend Josh are having a shootout with Becky and Shane. Then you can say those words we have heard all too often out of White America's mouth. "This is a good neighborhood. These types of things never happen here" News flash... they do now!

If the above is true, why are there so many fatherless black households? Honest question, I'd love to hear either your opinion or Scal's opinion on why that is. Why does it seem like young black men lack positive role models?
Now that is probably the first non racist question you have asked since I have been on the thread because it addresses a real issue in the Black community.

It's a complex situation and ultimately in my opinion it's one that needs to be seriously addressed because it wasn't always this way. You may not like what I have to say but you asked and I will give you my opinion about it.

The traces of this behavior can be clearly traced back to American Slavery where it was common to break up families by selling off the either the children or more likely the Father. Black men were used as studs to breed more children that the slave masters could use for more production. This is a historical fact non debatable.

Once the slaves were freed, the Black family returned to it's original roots where the Father remained in the home in a traditional way. But what happened to the African-American during 300 years of slavery set us apart from our African ancestors. Our culture became more matriarchal due to the absence of the man in the family unit. Blacks achieved quite a bit success which reached it's height in the 1920's then the depression and WWII hit. Roosevelt implemented the New Deal to bring the country out of the deep depression, eventually other changes happened to Blacks advance. The military was intergrated, Civil Rights movement and so forth.

After the Kennedy assasination, President Johnson declared a war on poverty. Although his intentions were good I feel in my humble opinion that this has led to the current downfall of the Black family. The government in it's infinite wisdom decided to reward women for having babies and punish them if the Father was in the home. Now there are exceptions to the rule but that's basically what the welfare program became. As a result you saw an increase in unwed Black mothers but the worst was yet to come.

As a result of continous cutbacks in education, segregation in schools and a overall inequality in the funds allocated to urban areas. We have experienced a tremendous downgrading of our school system. So now you have Blacks getting an inferior education, low paying jobs and seemingly no hope for a better future.
Now lets introduce drugs to the community, the proliferation of liquor stores in Black neighborhoods that started in the 70's and you now have the ground work in place for a complete disaster. By the time we hit the 1980's with fiscal consevatism being the rule of the day, the already disadvantaged Black areas experienced even deeper cuts. Blacks that hadn't advanced to the middle class were basically cemented into poverty with no way out and no programs to help. Enter crack cocaine and the rising popularity of gangsta rap and let's not forget the guns that became full fledged. Now the programming is set.

If you can control people with alcohol, drugs and give them entertainment to take their mind off of their situation. You have them right where you want them. Now let's introduce guns to the mix and bam. You have just basically wiped out a couple of generations of people.  The booming popularity of rap music glamorizing the gangsta life where the pimps are the heroes and the women are to be called bi**ches. This is where this has led us to today. Black youth is lost in a sea of despair and figure there is no way out.

The Black man is the epitome of a dichotomy, wanted and sexualized the world over by women and hated by some White men the world over. So without a male elder in his life he leads a life of irresonsibility and recklessness. Continued

Continued

Ah yes, the old "why are they SO MANY fatherless black families?" when in absolute terms there is very little disparity between black and white. But by god, forget dogs, percentages are our BEST FRIEND when it comes to the single-parent home issue. Anyhow...

You're a father.

What are the qualities/attributes/significant aspects of your person that make you 'a father?'

No need to answer if you don't want to waste your time. I'll be busy with the bigots otherwise.

So where do we go from here. First of all not all Black youth is lost. There are still Black men reaching out to the Black youth to set a different path and show them a better way. Ultimately it's Black people's responsibility to account for their own circumstance and not let others dictate to them what is acceptable or not. Black people need to get back to the old values and principles that were passed down for generations. Principles that you still see in a lot of Southern Black families. Self respect, thirst for knowledge etc.

At the same time White people need to see this as an American problem because our nation will not survive with a large segment of it's population feeling hopeless. Instead of denigrating a race. Take time to reach out and show some love. Give guidance, don't prejudge. Kids learn by example and you can be a mentor to a child that isn't your own by simply reaching out. You can change a life forever.
There are no easy answers to this problem. It didn't happen overnight and it wont get fixed overnight. I always say you may not can save everybody but you can start by saving one and then another and then another and so forth.

I will say this, many people are waking up to this situation and alot is being done on the ground to make sure that we don't continue this destructive path. But remember we all play a role in the current situation in this country. You are your brother's keeper. Being a racist isn't helping the situation in fact it makes it worse. Why should these kids care if they don't think you care about them. What's in it for them if they do all the hard work, go to school, get good grades, stay out of trouble only to be denied an equal opportunity because of the color of their skin. So let's not dismiss them as "those gangbangers and thugs" Because amongst those "gangbangers and thugs" are some sharp boys that just need someone to care and a even chance to make it.

In the end it's all of our responsibility to improve this country. Hate speech whether direct, indirect or coded doesn't do anything to make this country better. You asked a question. I have given you one answer. I don't speak for all Black people. There are those that would agree me and those that would disagree. I'm ok with that. If you're a racist and simply want to point fingers you're wasting your time. But if you honestly love your country you will see that we have all played a role in the current condition of this great land and we will all have to play a role in getting right.

They bold a sentence here or there and then run with it failing to grasp everything in context. It's how they operate. Mechanized bigots in an assembly line. Black slur up, black slur down. Rinse and repeat. Go to bed. Get up. Start the bigotry all over again.

I don't think anyone on Covers is a racist. If we come to this site we must love sports. Lets all admit, if it wasn't for slavery there wouldn't be many black people here. And our sports would be quite dull.

White Supremacists (whites that really hate black people) wish slavery never occurred. Therefore, they wouldn't have to live amongst them today.

Scal, do you agree with those White Supremacists?

Actually that's not true. The real hardcore racists love slavery and justify it by saying that did us a favor by taking us from Africa. In my previous life I did a few TV shows with these idiots and couldn't believe it. I can you for one the Rev. Butler out of Idaho you may know him expouses this sick point of view.

Scal is making some good points and if you take a step back he's getting deep with the reasons behind some of these beliefs and why they're misguided. The rationalization of these bizarre beliefs is kept alive when all the racists do is accuse the accuser of being the "real racist" It's the same mental game that rapists play when they say  she was "asking for it" because the woman was wearing a sexy outfit. Blaming the victim is the easiest way of deflecting blame from yourself on to others. Goebbels was spot on when he said the bigger the lie the more people will believe.

So you think someone is more racist that is glad slaves were brought over?

I would think someone would be more racist if he said he wished they were never brought over.

The initial settlers of this continent including the ever revered founding fathers WERE ALL white supremacists and to say otherwise is to be a fool. They were the very definition of it, paving the way for future white supremacists, like yourself. And you easily satisfy the definition and need not a hood or a biting cross to do so.

Thus making your argument laughable and your argumentation completely asinine, as usual.

Thus making your argument laughable and your argumentation completely asinine, as usual.

That was over 300 years ago you asswipe.

Dude, you're a joke.

You're a father.

What are the qualities/attributes/significant aspects of your person that make you 'a father?'

No need to answer if you don't want to waste your time. I'll be busy with the bigots otherwise.

Jesus you're f*cking dense. How do you compare a population of 223 million with 50 million in absolute terms? Are you being f*cking serious right now? They should even revoke your online psychology degree for stupid garbage like that. I mean come on. I pray that was a joke and I missed the punch line somewhere in your drivel.

There's finally a discussion here with someone on your side that makes a little sense and you go and post ignorant sh*t like this.

Post 201 and post 203 very insightful and I believe that's what most that post in response to Scal's drivel is trying to get to in the long run. I disagree with how you come up with a few of your numbers or who you're trying to label racists, but you have the right mindset that could actually make change for the better in this country.

And how do you compare one group that has one TWENTIETH the average net worth of the other???? You heard that stat right.

The black struggle has ALWAYS been about resources and equal access.

You want to give that stat a hand wave and say "they're fault" go ahead.

It's what bigots like yourself do and where the conversation ALWAYS ends.

Equal access to education, more jobs, more investment and less stigma equals less crime, more parenting, elimination of violence etc etc etc.

Now run along bill and think about who is truly dense here.

A bigoted, privileged 'clean up your act' statement proves you are the fool you've always been.
