I can totally relate to this sad story. We adopted a 5 yr old Basset Hound from a rescue a few years back. She was the sweetest dog you can ever imagine, yet the people who owned her prior to being in the rescue abused her. It's disgusting, I know.
We had her about a year, and one day I noticed a lump under her shoulder. We took her to the Vet right away and the Vet determined that she was ridden with Cancer! It was awful. We had to bring her home for the night, knowing that we had to take her back the next morning to be put down. I swear to God, it was one of the worst experiences of my life. We stayed up all night with her, and she just stared at us, she knew what was going to happen.
I feel for you brother...I love dogs, and like Allin2005 said we don't have kids and our dogs are like children to us.
