i travel between San Francisco and Toronto...live in TO but spend a great deal of time your end. Mortgages not really fair as they vary according to what you put down...but Toronto comparable with where you live.

I also live in Toronto...fortunate enough to have my house paid for, but then again I'm 106 years old....the housing market is still pretty strong here....the average house price is about $400K I believe...but it varies, of course.

I built my house 15 years ago in the country ne of Atlanta, 4220 square feet, on 2 acres for $130M (now 10 acres) then they built the Mall of Georgia 6 miles away and now its worth almost $500M (with the extra land)...anyways i make my last double payment of $2410 this coming December!!
