I don't even feel comfortable in a car without one on, especially when someone else is driving. Even if your dale earnhardt jr its the other shitty drivers you have to worry about. Drunk drivers, women, asians (just kidding), old people....there are a lot of landmines out there. Buckle up, it may save your life.

In most states, law enforcement needs to pull you over for a speeding, or other vehicle violation before they can issue a ticket.
   There is no question, everyone "SHOULD" wear a seatbelt! Having said that, I don't believe a ticket should be issued for not wearing one.
   These laws are designed to "gin" up the revenue for the states.
If a cop pulls you over for a speeding ticket and you aren't wearing a seatbelt, you now pay the "man" again.
   My advice, if you don't wear your seatbelt and are pulled over, put it on before he approaches the car. I don't believe he or she would issue a ticket then.
   One thing you have to consider here is that from a law enforcement perspective, they have to give you a ticket for that if you are speeding and you aren't wearing a seat belt.
   They are the enforcer's not the law makers.

I got pulled over about a month ago for no other reason except not wearing a seatbelt. Hard to believe driving 70 mph and the highway patrol driving the opposite direction that he can see that I am not wearing my seatbelt! Of course, before I pulled over, I snapped it in and saved myself the ticket. Kind of made me think though-if they wanted to really push the issue, they could require all car manufacturers to make the seatbelts a bright yellow or reflective that would make the DPS know for sure if it is being worn.

If you are a single person you could say this but if you have a wife and/or kids then you cannot say this.  If you have a wife and/or kids and don't wear a seatbelt you are just plain stupid.  Imagine your wife and/or kids hearing that their husband/daddy would still be alive if he just put his seatbelt on.

Why not wear one?  It takes 2 seconds to put it on and is it really that uncomfortable to wear one?

This is a financial issue, and at the same time it's an issue of freedom of the individual.  The state, county, and city governments also generate revenue from this violation - which is horseshit. 
 
I had a DUI years ago and wasn't wearing a seatbelt.  My car smashed into a concrete barrier, my airbag didn't deploy, and my head hit and broke through the windshield.  I don't know how I survived (God, in my eyes), and I only had to have the top of my forehead and my chin stapled and stitched.  I no longer drink at all, and I always wear my seatbelt (even though I hate it).  I'd rather attempt to increase my odds of living through this simple task, than take my chances without one...

been driving for 30 years without a seatbelt & i'm pretty sure it hasn't cost anyone else in this world a single penny

i have paid 3 of these bullshit tickets over the last 3 years, actually got two in one week during buckle up new york week. biggest bunch of bullshit ever. total money making operation by the police. 2 of the 3 of them were at seat belt check points in WNY. you are getting me all pissed off again just thinking about it.

If I'm cited for not wearing my seat belt, then so be it.  I will pay the fine and continue to not wear my seat belt.  No one tells me what to do.

Also, drunk driving is nothing to joke about.

How old are some of you who don't wear seatbelts?  If you're over 35, bottom line is you're just being stubborn about the whole thing.  They've been around forever and you would be easily used to them by now.  And anyone younger wouldn't know what it was like to not have seatbelts, so I don't think they have any excuse whatsoever.

When you dont wear your seatbelt, it does affect other people.  I pay more insurance to pay for your dumb ass when you have a million dollar medical bill instead of an overnight stay.  It is a financial issue, not a freedom issue.

my best friends mother got in a very bad accident and the doctor said if she was wearing her seatbelt she would've died....SO GO AHEAD AND PAY MORE HAHAHA
 
 
freedom thing......FREEDOM.....hmmmm ok..USA...wear your seatbelt or else...gimmie a fucken break..stay off the fucken cell phone and you will be fine....oh and get your head out of the bottle of gin....STUPID !!

I got pulled over strictly for not wearing my seatbelt....fine was like 100 bucks. It wasn't worth the time to fight it imo...but I agree it is your fault if something happens to you and you are not wearing a seatbelt. It seems like this would be classified as a RIGHT.

This is stupidity to the max.

As Vanzak said, I could give two craps about your health but I do care about my wallet.  Seat belt reduces injuries which in turn means lower healthcare costs.  this in turn saves everyone money.  If you don't wear your seatbelt and get in an accident, more times then not, you are going to have increased injuries which means someone has to pay for those injuries - that is insurance companies.  insurance companies then spread out those costs among all of their policy holders - meaning me.

So if you don't want to wear a helmet or seatbelt - fine but send me 10 bucks every month so I don't have to pay the freight for your dumb ass.

As forevery story about "not wearing a seatbelt" saved your life I can find 100, more like a 1000 stories where it did save a person's life.

If it's that simple why don't they outlaw everything that causes health problems and injuries leading to jacked up healthcare costs?  Cigarettes, alcohol, fast food, sugar, motorcycles, football, etc...

Calling everyone dumb asses and dopes that do not agree with you doesn't change the fact that it is both a financial AND a freedom issue.  How about when the government decides everyone will need to wear a helmet while riding in a car to prevent high medical bills due to head injuries?  Will you support that if it will keep your insurance rate down?

It is a financial issue, not just for the reason you stated, but also another revenue stream for municipalities that ticket those not buckled up. When the government replaces freedoms with money making laws, we are no longer free.  As a society our willingness to accept the erosion of our freedoms (Patriot Act) is appalling.  Freedom is more important than your money.

I wear my seatbelt 100% of the time. I destroyed my truck when i was 27 and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. Lesson learned. Painful lesson learned.
