I remember going when I was like 6 or 7 years old. I didn't get very far cuz as a shy kid I didn't have the balls back then to get in front of the class and do a form with all these people watching.
The instructor was always telling me to shutup basically because I was an energetic little kid that liked to darn around. At that age you don't have discipline for stuff like that.
Depending on how old your kid is I think it would be more fun if they just rode bicycles and hung out around the neighborhood or at a buddies house. There's always activities little kids can do.
Just because it martial arts looks cool doesn't mean you will enjoy learning it. I remember when the music teacher showed everyone the violin for the first time and everyone thought it was so cool. I definitely wanted to do it, but my parents didn't have the funds to get it for me.
Looking back I'm really glad they didn't. Most people dropped playing instruments by 8th or 9th grade when they realized band is for losers.

I wish that i would have studied music while i was in school

You gotta just laugh at the people who see a few karate instructors arrested for things, that suddenly makes karate a bad thing.
Even if karate doesnt make every kid ultimate fighting machines, its still good exercise, which is a whole lot better then letting todays kids sit on the couch stuffing snacks and soda down their throats while playing xbox or surfing the net.
Karate is good cardio, stretching and who knows your kids might learn one defensive move that might save their life one day.![]()
Lot of good activities for kids today if they would get off their fools.
Boxing, kick boxing,judo, etc etc
