Gt to win the coastal division, 8.75 to 1
GT to win the ACC, 20 to 1

I'm just saying the potential is still there, and the schedule is as favorable as possible.

And I wouldn't brag about a 3 pt win over Tech after Tech shit the bed 2x to end the season to finish on a downturn.

slaton didn't even play half the game... get the fuck out of here WVU is in an elite class with USC, Texas and LSU this year... forget the LOU loss (again without slaton) WVu would have played and probably won the BCS this last year

It seems to me that the offensive and defensive lines are clearly the most important parts of any team. Without being solid upfront there is simply no way a team is going to move the ball or stop anybody. As much as we hear this, it still seems to go overlooked by many. From my perspective, a team could be utterly average everywhere else (at least on offense) but with a truly dominant front five they could still put together a 10+ win season in most conferences (assuming they could play a little defense.) With that said, who has the top 5 offensive and defensive lines in the country going into the fall?  - TheHiddenImam, Oakland, CA

A: We’ll get into this far more in-depth in a few weeks when we release all our preview stuff, but my choice for the five best offensive lines going into the year are: 1) Oklahoma, 2) USC, 3) Georgia Tech, 4) Michigan, 5) Texas A&M. My five defensive lines are: 1) LSU, 2) Miami, 3) USC, 4) Georgia Tech, 5) Iowa

10. Georgia Tech
- Georgia Tech | Offense Preview | Defense
| Depth Chart
Why Georgia Tech should be No. 1: Had Calvin Johnson foolishly decided to come back for his senior year, Georgia Tech probably would've been our sleeper choice to play USC for the national title. There might not be a better set of lines in the country, and everything will revolve around them. RB Tashard Choice is an elite runner who'll have plenty of room to run, while QB Taylor Bennett will be an upgrade over Reggie Ball. Just about everyone returns to a stellar defense, led by LB Philip Wheeler, and a top-notch safety tandem of Jamal Lewis and Djay Jones.
Why Georgia Tech isn't No. 1: James Johnson might be a nice receiver, but he's not Calvin Johnson. Losing CJ will hurt the most, but losing offensive coordinator Patrick Nix to Miami will also sting. The depth is thin at linebacker and the corners aren't necessarily special. Tech's biggest problem has always been game-in-and-game-out consistency, and this year won't be any different. You know the total clunker is coming, you just don't know when (possibly at Maryland).
Relative Strengths: Offensive Line, Defensive Line
Relative Weaknesses:
Wide Receiver, Secondary

Va Tech will be ready for a piece of GT after last year, you can bank on it. At least they have it sandwiched between Army and Duke.

Ga Tech possible lost: @ ND (but Ga Tech might pull out a close win), Boston College, Clemson.

Most likely will lose: @ Miami Fl, VT, Georgia.  Ga Tech seeing an 8-4 or 9-3 record at best.

Good luck to ya!

from www.football.com:

2) GEORGIA TECH (300-1) - Despite winning the Coastal Division, the Yellow Jackets lost their final three games of the season to finish a disappointing 9-5.

Strengths - Georgia Tech returns 80% of its lettermen and gains a significant upgrade at QB with Taylor Bennett replacing Reggie Ball. The Jackets defense has picked off more passes than TDs allowed for two straight seasons, one of only 14 teams in the country to accomplish that feat.

Weaknesses - Losing Calvin Johnson will definitely hurt the passing game despite the expected emergence of redshirt freshman Demaryius Thomas.

Bottom line - Even though it's highly doubtful the Jackets can win the National Championship, they are the top value play in the country at 300-1. Look for a 9-3 record, 6-2 in the ACC, and an extremely solid team to wager on each and every week.

3. Georgia Tech's passing game will be better without Calvin Johnson
The Yellow Jackets won't be able to replace Johnson, an All-American receiver and the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL draft by the Detroit Lions. New Yellow Jackets offensive coordinator John Bond described Johnson as "arguably the best receiver to ever play" college football.

AP Photo/John Bazemore

Georgia Tech QB Taylor Bennett should more consistent than Reggie Ball.

But with junior quarterback Taylor Bennett replacing much-maligned Reggie Ball under center, the Yellow Jackets should be more consistent and balanced on offense. Bennett is at least 4 inches (possibly closer to 6 inches) taller than Ball, so the new quarterback can see over the line of scrimmage. Bennett's height will open up the middle of the field, which was seemingly off-limits in the past. The Yellow Jackets were often forced to roll out Ball so he could see downfield.

While Georgia Tech doesn't have a receiver with Johnson's athleticism or explosiveness, there are quite a few options. Junior James Johnson caught 39 passes for 608 yards and two touchdowns last season. Sophomore Greg Smith had seven catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns in a limited role in 2006.

But the player to watch is redshirt freshman Demaryius Thomas, who is capable of replacing a large portion of Johnson's production. Thomas has great size (6-foot-3, 220) and speed and has shown dependable hands and route running. He was so good in the spring that Yellow Jackets coach Chan Gailey tried to temper expectations by talking about his team's other receivers.

With tailback Tashard Choice and underrated fullback Mike Cox returning, the Yellow Jackets might be even more explosive this season.

The Best Blitzing Linebacker

No defensive coordinator causes more headaches for an opposing quarterback than Georgia Tech's Jon Tenuta, who loves to attack with his myriad of blitz packages. Tenuta has groomed more than his share of standout linebackers. He's got another gem in senior middle linebacker Philip Wheeler.

"He was the best linebacker we saw last season."

Wheeler, who stands 6-2 and 230 pounds, has played all three linebacker positions for the Yellow Jackets, serving as a free-wheeling force coming off the weakside, tracking tight ends from the strongside and anchoring the middle as he does now.

Wheeler isn't a big talker or an oversized personality, but he is an explosive athlete who has really matured since coming to Tech. Three years ago, he was undisciplined and frequently was caught out of position. Last season, Wheeler became more of a thinking man's linebacker and fit well into this scheme. His timing is often impeccable; Tech loves to get Wheeler matched up on backs after he flies in on a delayed blitz behind stunting Yellow Jackets D-linemen. Last season he notched nine sacks, and the havoc he caused probably led to twice that many.

"He's a freak of an athlete," said a line coach whose team played against Tech last season. "You don't want to have him matched up with your tailback, but [Tenuta] does such a good job with his pressure packages, that's usually what you're stuck with. And then Wheeler just tosses your guy. He's really good with his hands.

Those counting on Georgia Tech to plummet simply because Calvin Johnson is in Detroit are about to be very surprised.  Erratic quarterback Reggie Ball is also gone, which is good news, both lines are terrific, and running back Tashard Choice is about to make a surprise run at All-America honors.  The Jackets get Virginia Tech at Bobby Dodd, meaning don’t count out a run for a second straight Coastal Division crown.

Hey I'll be honest with ya, I got Va Tech goin to the Title Game, So obviously I don't see Ga Tech winnig the division, conference, or National Title.

But I definitely see the winning the division and conference as great bets.

And I get that Ga Tech has a far better shot then its 300-1 or 25k to 1 its being given. however, not every bet that has great value has to be taken.

I'm reminded of a clip from the office... A character says something is about 10000-1, another character Kevin states that he will take that action. In an interview with Kevin he says 'whenver you get a bet thats 10000 to 1 you take it. that's why when Stings wins an Oscar I'm going to be rich.'

But hey, good luck too Ga Tech

karasz, agreed. Listen, we won the 1990 national championship entering the season unranked. I have 500 on tech to win the coastal @ 8.75/1, and 500 on tech to win the acc at 20/1. only bout 50 bucks on tech to win it all at 200/1.

Like you say, "value" means nothing if it's hopeless... so I put the amount that drinks would cost me for 1 night, just to relieve myself if tech DOES pull the 1990-ish miracle and get it done, so I don't hang myself after. I'll stay in this friday and not have my usual jack-and-cokes to make up for it.

I think you are wasting your money.  You might as well put it in an incinerator.  You will never see that money again.  Georgia Tech will have a loss after week 1 playing at Touchdown Jesus.  Every square bettor and their brothers are on Georgia Tech.  Tells me Notre Dame is the play.  I mean laying less than a field goal at home to Georgia Tech.  I will play the Golden Domers.

Nobody expects anything from them, I never thought Brady Quinn was that good, apparently most NFL GM's agreed with me.

I will take the better head coach laying less than a field goal at home.  Notre Dame will fill in with young talent.  They had the #6 recruiting class and that will mean there will be some good Redshirt Freshmen and Sophomores.  This is Weis' 3rd year at Notre Dame, so he has more of his type of guys than ever before.  I hear the media everyday saying how bad Notre Dame is going to be, sounds like a smear campaign to get every square like yourself to line up at the ticket window to bet the Yellow Jackets.  It appears there will be blood in the streets of squareville if Notre Dame covers.  Notre Dame wins this game by a touchdown.

Well all I can say is I am a professional sports gambler.  I probably play more on 1 single game than you do on 4 or 5 games.  Good luck on your Yellow Jackets.  You will need it!
