i honestly have no problem if someone wants to bet Syracuse... what i don't get is that the only reasons i've seen are basically:
 
1) everyone is on Minnesota
2) this line should be higher
3) new coach brings excitement
 
i've just been waiting to see if someone can really make a case for 'Cuse from a pure handicapping standpoint... because those 3 above are all bad reasons to bet on a team...
 
in fact, #3 is the worst of all... everyone should know that continuity is crucial in CFB... between having a new coach and a new QB, that is a bad recipe, especially when facing a team that returns it's coach and QB, along with most of it's other key players...
 
but hey... anyone can bet any team they want... just remember we all told ya so...

the most recent article i read on Syracuse training camp was talking about how the offense could score in redzone drills against the 'Cuse defense...
 
now maybe this means the Orange defense is greatly improved and just stifling... or maybe it means that offense isn't quite clicking like the New Orleans Saints just yet...

im leanin to sota, im not callin for a lock of the century on the game or anything, syracuse now has a terrible pg from duke at qb, but sota looked HORRIBLE the 2nd half of the year last season.  i am surprised that they are getting a ton of love, i think its more people wanting to fade the cuse more then anything, i wish it was a different team syracuse were up against in this game.

I'd be very surprised if Penn State laid that many to Syracuse.  I doubt the line will come close to 40, more like high 20s or low 30s.  LY the line was PSU -27 @ SYR, if I'm not mistaken.

yea laro i overshot it... well... there's 0 chance it will be in the 20's... but it should be in the mid-30's... especially this early in the season...
 
best guess is (-32)... will probably be bet up to (-35)... i'll still bet it!

I'm sure this won't matter to you but does the fact that Minnesota opens their brand new stadium the next week mean anything to you.  To me this is a substantial factor as it will be an obvious look ahead situation for Minnesota.  They get the "cup cake" Syracuse on the road before the TWO biggest games of the season...hmmmmmm

second of all, you are not getting it... lines are set to garner equal action on games... they are adjusted when there is heavy action on one side... it isn't about whether or not Vegas made a mistake... it is about whether or not the betting public made a mistake... Vegas may set the lines (actually lines are set overseas, for the most part), but where the lines end up is all about the betting public... so if a closing line is off, that is because the betting public screwed up... not because Vegas did...

Maybe because some of the few bettors that are on Syracuse are evening out the money...even though those bettors are minimal.

Yes, they open their new stadium the next week....but like you mentioned, it doesn't really matter. I've never heard of a look-ahead to a 'grand opening' rather than an oponent. The Cuse is bad, so bad nobody wants to be on the team anymore. When Minny is healthy, they're a totally different team. One of us will be making $$$ off this JT, I just hope I'm on the winning side.
 
Thoughts on the Navy/OSU game?

i could care less about 50/50 action, or line movement, or a grand opening... i have thoroughly capped this game... you can make an argument for not betting on the game... but if you are betting on Syracuse, you're a bad capper...

You are wrong about this though...this is a MAJOR deal in Minnesota...I am spending quite a bit of time there and around the campus and trust me this is huge.

and Ice, I try to be nice and give everyone respect in this forum...but statements like this clearly show you are nothing more than an arrogant prick...you call someone a bad capper because they picked a game that differs from yours?  Someone is a bad capper because they have given you countless reasons why they will be supporting Syracuse and you brush those ideas off to the side.  

How about you read the posts and respectfully disagree.  How about you stop trying to act like you are a world class capper and hit your games at a 75% clip.  We are all in here to try and make money and post our opinions on the games.  What we don't need in here is someone like you trying to make others feel like shit simply because they don't agree with your superior sports betting intellect.

FYI

This is an interesting tidbit about the Minnesota offense.  From a Minn. website.

Offensively the Gophers are trying to change their stripes.  For the last two seasons we have had the Mike Dunbar spread offense (which Cal fans should be familiar with).  This achieved moderate success through the air but for various reasons it was a disaster on the ground.  So Coach Dunbar is no longer on staff, a run game coordinator was hired away from Alabama and a shiny new offensive coordinator was hired from the NFL.  What exactly we will be running is a bit unclear but we will likely be running.  OC-Jedd Fisch has no hands on experience as an offensive coordinator so what his offense will look like is a mystery but he has had success in the NFL at developing receivers and was intimately close to the Denver Bronco's run game.  

Lots of change with the Minnesota offense.  This could spell disaster with their 1st game on the road.  Even with 18 starters returning, I can certainly see a simplified game plan.  It will be intersting to see the new offense.

However,  we all know that SU has undergone tremedous amounts of change too!  New coach, Paulus at QB, etc.

Just my opinion....taking Minn -6.5.  Hoping Minn pounds the rock and limits turnovers.  I see a 24 - 10 game.
