canes, all you can say that they didn't beat anybody. Well in 2007 the OSU went to Penn st and Michigan and destroyed both teams, something I know has never happened, and it is unlikely that a team has won games both at PSU and MICH the same year. Penn st beat Tex am in their bowl, and Mich beat a good Florida team. So how is this "nobody"? OSU also won at Washington, and if you know anything about College FB then you know that is not easy. (Chck out USC vs Wash last year) And in 2006 OSU beat Mich handily, there was a backdoor cover in the last minute of the game, but the result wasn't in doubt the whole second half and OSU dominated most of that game.

Canes47 - you need some therapy, you need to move on, Miami FL is such a yeasterday type of team, yes they used to be good 15-20 years ago, but they obviously cheated every way they could, and frankly they should be stripped of any titles, just like Michigan BK was stripped of honors in the early 90's. (Maybe the 2001 team could keep their title, they were already on probation before that and they have recruited honestly during that period) So move on, Miami lost in 2003, yea there was a ? call, but there were other ? calls that game, if anything the officiating was consistently terrible. You want refs to be consistent right? Now Miami is struggling to compete with teams like Virginia, NCar, and S Flor appears to have taken over the area.

Let's say they go 11-1 or 12-2. Nothing to really be proud of with 3 absolute gimmee games and playing in a weak Big 10. So there is a possibility that OSU could play for another title or other BCS bowl. Now I know you all know how it will end for the Buckeyes. If they play an SEC team for the championship they shouldn't even lace up their shoes; conceding the game before the bloodbath begins would be most desirable. When OSU plays for any bowl they better hope that team doesn't have great team speed because they can't hang.

In the BIG 10 they are a big fish in a little pond. In the top 25 they are a little fish in the ocean. Good luck though Buckeye fans. You're gonna need it.

 

Again another OSU basher who has no idea what he is talking about.  What else do you want Ohio State to do.  The Big 10 is not as strong as they were in the 90's but this is simply a cycle.  Why don't you look at the overall Big 10 record against the SEC. 

What should Ohio State do buddy? you tell me.  Maybe they should play their Big 10 Schedule, and then schedule a home and home with Texas, followed by a home and home with USC, followed by a home and home with Miami, followed by a home and home with Oklahoma.  Oh wait, that is exactly what they did!  Oh I get it what we should do is play 3 out of confrence games before Big 10 play against the 3 best out of confrence teams in the country.  I'm sorry this year we only have USC away.  I'm sorry we couldn't shcedule a game with Florida and Mizzou before playing USC and then go into Big 10 play.   And then after the Michigan game we'll play the winner of the SEC to make sure we have a tough enough schedule for you.  When you make statments like this it shows your lack of research and this is not how you want people to view your posts.

 

Also please don't bet on college football when you think Ohio State has a better chance of loosing to Michigan St. (whom they have beaten 6 times in a row under Tressel) on the road than a Wisconsin (whom they play on the road) team that is bringing back 17 of 22 starters and was leading Ohio State in Columbus last year half way through the third quarter.

I don't want to be mean to people but when you come into this post and make general statements bashing OSU with no real facts to support your position than I have no respect for you.  When you underplay the importance of confrence games, especially at night on the road I have no respect for your views.  When you think winning big 10 titles means nothing, and that the Big 10 is such a joke I have no respect for your views.  When you don't think a game on the road against Wisconsin is a big/tough game I.... you get the point.

tress i want your opinion,the game i think everyone is forgetting about is the penn state game..i think they will be very good this year and will play you guys to the wire,even though it is on the road..i expect penn state to be very good this year....

Mike I agree 100%.  Penn State has a chance at being 8-0 and this game could be a national title type game for them.  However I think the fact that they are playing in Columbus will be too much to overcome.  They are moving to the spread style and should have a mobile quarterback which as we know gives the Bucks problems.  However it is his first year as a starter and this defense showed at the end of last years game what a real defense can do.

 

I think the toughest game on the shcedule (aside from USC) will be the away game against Wisconsin.  The Bucks always have problems with the Badgers (as we saw last year) and the fact that they are on the road will obviously play into it.

yeah penn state has alot of weapons on offense, just depends on how well clark and devlin play at qb..i like clarks versatilitty but  i think they plan on playing 2 qbs...that sean lee injury really hurts the defense but the d line is vey good..anyway should be a fun season,, and fuck all these pac 10 homers, from top to bottom i will take the big ten over the pac 10 anyday

I respectfully counter that you don't grasp college football or sport very well. Texas was VOTED #2 in the country when OSU* beat them. Michigan wa VOTED #2 in 2006. Both teams turned out to be frauds later on in the season, just like OSU* did.

OSU* hasn't beaten a team that finished in the top 10 since Miami except for Michigan and Michigan barely did that, losing their last two.

Say what you want, but that is damning evidence that a paper tiger lives on the banks of the Olentangy and the same goes for the guy running them.

I understand that you don't want to accept this, but just go on and cheer for your Big 10 champs, just don't try and fool anybody into thinking you are a national power or something. OSU* is a regional power and that is it. College football is like women, nothing Ohio can throw out there can compete with California and the South.

Gotta disagree with Canes here. To say OSU isn't a national power is ridiculous. I don't care about the big 10 sucking, OSU unable to win a big game in the bcs, yada yada yada. All arguments should end with any person who says OSU isn't a national power. I know OSU homers say some silly shit, but that tops them all.

OSU has dominated the Big 10 like few teams have recently. Maybe that is why chumps say the Big 10 sucks? It is actually a fairly competitive conference.

No problem with the disagreement, but you need to remember that OSU* has won 1 title in the last 40 years. 1!!! How can you be a power if you only win once in 40 years? What is powerful about that?

USC, Penn State, Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State and Nebraska seem to be the powers to me.

OSU* belongs with Clemson, Colorado, Tennessee and teams like that. Is Tennesee a national power?

Canes, teams like Nebraska , FSU, Miami, Bama, are totally irrevelant now. To call them powers now is wrong. They are not competing for their conference or NC at all. The powers now are USC, OSU, OKL, LSU, etc.

hmmm....interesting thread here, my two cents:
 
The National Powerhouses right now are Ohio State, USC, UF.
 
Tressel, Meyer, Carroll, can RECRUIT and coach.  Notice I put the word RECRUIT first and in CAPS.
 
Period, end of discussion, these are the three teams you do not want on your schedule.  One of these teams, if not 2, will be in the NC game. 
 
Then there is LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma.  You are pretty much fucked if you have to play these teams as well, but who knows, sometimes they choke, SEC quite frankly is the best football in the country but there is a lot of undeserved hype there too.
 
Programs like Nebraska, Miami, FSU, Alabama, all suck ass right now.  BUT, with coaches like Saban and Shannon, it would not be crazy to see Miami and Alabama back in the scene in 2 to 3 years.
 
Why?  Because just like USC was a sleeping dog in the late 90's, these programs are steeped in tradition and just need a fiery recruiter (like Carroll) to come in and rebuild.
 
ps--I am a diehard Canes fan, just so you know.
 
AND, it is kind of annoying that Ohio State keeps making it to the final game and gets their ass kicked.
 
Can't wait for the season!!!

Are you 60+ years old? To list the teams in bold as powerhouses is crazy. Those are traditional power houses, but get real. How come you have Florida in there?  They one one title in what, 13-14 years (kind of defeats your powerhouse theory)? When looking at a powerhouse, I think the past 5-6 years should only be considered.

My powerhouse programs: USC, LSU, OSU, UF, and maybe Texas. Winning championship isn't the main criteria. Being consistent is.

Florida 96 and 06 that is twice. No, I am not 60 years old. Tell me this children, if you win the championship 1 time in 40 years are you more of a fluke or a powerhouse by definition? In the last 6 years OSU* has beaten 1 time that finished in the top 10. Explain powerhouse to me. Is it beating out Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin every year? Those are the only revelant at all teams in the Big 10.

Being consistent? What do you think Miami has been? They have played for 40% of the championships in the last 25 years and that includes a probation period. That is consistency. They are down and going through a coaching change and you want to ignore stats like that? You are just paying too much attention to what people tell you in the media.

IN THE LAST SIX YEARS, OSU* HAS BEATEN ONE TEAM THAT FINISHED IN THE TOP 10!!

You are not that smart are you? In the last 8-10 years or so, Texas has beaten Oklahoma twice. How can you be a national power if you can't beat Oklahoma who gets blown out all the time in big games?

Just wondering, might the New York Yankees be a baseball power?? No championships in the last 5-6 years though. Face it children, to be a power, you have to show that you are capable of dominating for a few years at a time. OSU* has not done this. College football is the only sport where winning your conference is made to be such a big deal by some. Treat college football like a real sport and you will then understand who the powers are. Quick, who won the PAC-10 title in 2000? See, you didn't know, that is because nobody cares about anybody's conference except their own. National is all that counts.

Veech, very well said. Can't deny anything you said. As  for being a national power, OSU is one of the few teams that has been in the top 10 consistently since the mid 90's. LSU, USC, OKL, have had some good runs but not for as long. Florida is right there with OSU. Teams like Miami, Nebraska, FSU are dead right now. So to say that OSU is not a National power is wrong, when they have been in contention for the NC, late in the year, for about 8 of the last 13 seasons. And Canes. I believe that Washington won the Pac 10 in 2000, have to look it up.

Canes, you need to stop. You sound like an idiot. For one, I'm a big fan of Miami and FSU. I dream of having that kind of success at USC. But dude, you're in fantasy land if you think FSU and Miami are still power house programs. College football needs The U and FSU to be dominant, in my opinion. They are in more than just a down period. And based on your assessment that OSU has only won 1 championship in 60 years, that would be USC would be #1 or #2 biggest powerhouse in college, right, since they have won so many NC's?  Thats stupid. You might as well say ND is a powerhouse, based on that ridiculous assessment.
 
Your posts in this thread remind me of my grandfather and his "I use to walk in the snow 10 miles each way to get to school" lectures. Get over it. You guys are down, and have a ways to go. I do believe Miami will be back in 2-3 years.

How come fans can't admit that their team sucks?  You'll get a fan who's team is coming off a 7-5 season saying stuff like we're good or we're very close to being good. If USC went 7-5, I wouldn't be talking too much. In fact, when they go 10-2 or 11-1, I still refuse to talk so highly about them. I see what happens to the FSU and Miami's of the world, so it scares the hell out of me knowing this will occur one day at USC. But man, OSU fans especially, are so dillusional. I can't wait to tailgate at the USC/OSU game. There are going to be some fights. They will regret playing this one at 5pm pst.

Relax my friend ... Sit back and enjoy what will be a great  4 years for all  you lucky Buckeye fans.. I am a PSU fan... Terrelle  Pryor is the rare athlete that is bigger then even the huge hype that precedes him..  Your new QB of the future ... He was hyped in Jr high he surpassed the hype.. ...  Was hyped in HS was better  then anyone wildest dreams.. I know you think you probably have a winner but IMO ( and many other people who have watched him progress from a 5th grade phenom)  its not a matter of probably its a matter of when .. OSU has something special and it will not take long for many  to find out,, Only a Freshman but I will be shocked if he does not hit the field alot this year and not just to run.. IMO you have a Wally Pip situation brewing ..  Its probably a funny statement to many,  but all the hype Pryor has recieved still dwarfs his talent big time IMO.. Once in a lifetime player.. Bump this in Nov or Dec..

Great points..............as a Husky fan I've seen the glory days go by the wayside. Since DJ left, they've had a few decent years but nothing like the defensively-dominant teams of the 90's. History is still history though, & we relished beating USC even though they were down. Those days are long gone, & although the 91 team may be one of the best ever, I don't live in the past. The Dawgs are a long ways from what they used to be...........I know it & won't be a blind idiot about it.
