This ain't the Big East Richie! In Rich Rodriguez' opener at the helm with Michigan he gets a tough draw as he faces the Utes. These are the same Utes that absolutely put a "beat down" on the Mighty Bruins of UCLA last year to the tune of 44-6! Offfensively the Utes need only 2 names to inspire fear in the Wolverine defense...Brian Johnson and Mr. D Mack. Defensively this Utes squad ranked 5th in the Nation last year allowing a meager 17 points per game. Moreso, they were the most effective defense in the entire nation against the pass! Now Michigan is gonna trounce out a 1st year starter at QB that is going to have to try and handle an all new offensive scheme and the #1 pass defense in the land from a year ago! Additionally, the Michigan offense has but ONE senior on the field and he has amassed a mere 20 catches for 161 yards and 2 TDs in his first three years.
I don't want to run past the opening kickoff, so in summary my thoughts are this:
Utah is a much better team and program than many might think. Michigan is not the Michigan that many people want to beleive they are. You are going to see a first year QB starting under center for Michigan and that young man is going to have to try and run a brand new offense against a very stout defense and in front of 107,000 fans who clearly remember Appy State and will probably be quick to jump ship at the first sign of trouble. Michigan's run defense was less than good last year and they are going to be tested early and often by Darrell Mack. In my humble opinion, Utah wins this game outright.
