Two teams going in opposite directions meet at Ryan Field to kickoff their 2008 seasons. One team, Northwestern, comes in with high hopes and expectations after a 6-6 effort in 2007 which was two wins better than their 4-8 effort in 2006. Coach Fitzgerald has improved in his first two years and now Evanston is thinking BCS in 2008! The other team, Syracuse, is coming off of a 2007 campaign that saw them post a disgusting 2-10 record which now brings Coach Robinson's three year record at the helm to a pathetic 7-28. The once proud alma matter of my QB (D McNabb), surely will begin the hunt for a new leader if the Orange lose today. So, we have "Bowl Expectations" hosting "Please let me keep my job" today.
Syracuse showed problems on both sides of the line of scrimmage last year as offensively they ranked 104th in scoring posting a meager 16 points per game. While Robinson played decent at QB tossing 13 TDs and amassing 2,192 yards through the air, the running game was nowhere to be found as the Orange only gained 63 yards per game by foot. While they will have 3 starters back on the offensive line, two healthy RBs, and returning wideout Mike Williams, I still feel that they will struggle to put points on the board. Defensively the Orange were non-existant as they gave up 35 points per game and allowed 469 yards per game last year. They showed no "fire" last year as they recorded just 9 sacks for the entire campaign and forced only 14 turnovers. they do return two solid starters in LB Jake Flaherty and Tackle Art Jones, however, they still do not posess the "killer" attitude and will once again give up huge chunks of yardage and big points today.
On the Northwestern side of the field, they also displayed a lacksadaisical defense last year as they allowed 31 points per game and had only 18 sacks and 16 turnovers for the year. They however did something about it and brought in Mike Hankwitz from Wisconsin to oversee their defense and instill a more aggressive approach to the defense. With a good mix of returning starters and new starters that saw alot of game time last year, the Wildcats should see huge improvements defensively. None the less, the heart and soul of the Wildcats team will still be their efficient and productive spread offense. Led by QB CJ Bacher who completed 61 % of his attempts last year for over 3,600 yards and 19 TDs the offense will no doubt again be lethal through the air. The biggest expectations however are on the shoulders, or moreso in the legs, of returning RB Tyrell Sutton. This kid has 3,000 career rushing yards despite only putting up 522 yards in an injury plagued season last year! This kid can flat out play and it is he who will be the dagger in the Orange hearts today.
There is no way that the Orange will be able to stay with the Wildcats today offensively. Northwestern is simply the more talented team. Throw in the fact that Northwestern is on an upward swing and looking for a Bowl Game this year while Syracuse is in a downward spiral and will most likely be looking for a new Headcoach at seasons end and you have a clear recipe for a Big Ten "Beatdown" in Evanston today.
Upping tha ante on this one.

I like Northwestern Here also. Northwestern returns a slew of players at both sides of the ball. Syracuse returns a horrendous QB along with no names behind him to run the ball. I see NW here by 20.

Syracuse's #1 WR Mike Williams (837 yds, 10 TD LY) was ruled academically ineligible. (The next highest returning receiver is RB Curtis Brinkley with 9 rec, 149 yds, 0 TD's).

One more reason to play NW
