Just calling it like I see it. MSU punched UM in the mouth, it didn't go the way I expected it to. I actually graduated from MSU and went to every basketball and football game at MSU for 4 years, but I grew up in A2 so I root for UM when they play MSU. I actually root for MSU every other game.

This is just a bad situation for sparty

I look at the game from both sides, you're the one went off on a rant about Michigan's tradition in that thread a couple of weeks ago. And you stated Dantonio will never get MSU to where RichRod is gonna get Michigan. You then declared RichRod would win a national championship at Michigan!

You'll never catch me saying that type of shit.

It's just my opinion, I personally think Rod is building something at UM. I realize 90% of people disagree with me, it is what it is. Congrats on the victory, MSU outplayed UM in every phase. It was an emotional week, I will just leave it at that.

As for this game, I just think NW pass offense is a bad matchup for MSU pass defense.

7-0 in the Big Ten and # 7 in BCS. I would imagine that most Spartan fans are feeling pretty crappy about this road trip to Evanston.

Ask any objective gambler and they will say it's a bad situation. The lines agree with me too. I hope MSU wins, and think they will. I just see a wild game.

The Sagarin ratings give MSU a 9 pt edge....strength of schedule
is 76 for MSU and 129 for NW

Don't think this is the same Spartans team of the past. I think they have the ingredients to go and do what they need to do on Saturday.

I know the players and coaches know what is at stake here... and I don't see them getting knocked off until the trip to Iowa City.

See that, parted with what Sparty said, is making me wonder why they put this line at -5 for the public to bet on when with what has been said in this thread it should be at -7. This is telling us to back NW. I haven't made an official decision but this line is speaking volumes right now being less than a touchdown.

Vast majority of cappers on this board are on NW...alot have it as their plays of the week-month-year-century ....whatever nonsense some of them use.

Weather is still in the air...bad weather would muck up the situation for sure...as I think MSU has the far superior passing QB while NW has the far better running QB

I TOTALLY AGREE SPARTY----------I love to play home dogs but I just can't back the wildacts here. They don't have a ground attack and rely on Persa too much. Their schedule has been soft and they have yet to beat a team with a winning record.

This is really a funny situation. Like you say, many are backing NW because the line is strangely low. You know if the opened this line at -8.5 most of those would be backing Sparty... strange but true.

As in most all football games, the game is played on the field, not in your head. Back the better team and forget the number if its below a TD, and you will do well

MSU should roll, but they'll have a letdown at somepoint. This week seems as good as any. I only have a small Play on NW though.

Big advantage for MSU is the fact Dantonio will be back on the sidelines... this should a major plus when it comes to focus and execution.

NW has a very hollow record...5-1 is great...but they haven't beaten anyone and have struggled with a few lousy teams.

I think both teams will want to run the ball and keep the ball away from its opponent.

I think you will see Persa run more in this game...and I'd look for alot of screens and short passes in hopes on controlling clock and sustaining drives for NW.

The more I break this game down the more I think the under might be the play here.

I think Coach D back on the sidelines is a major plus as well, but again, situationally, the over is the play here. MSU has a bad history of giving up way too many points to NW, even to bad NW teams. Coming off a big homecoming win, after two emotional wins, I think the over makes sense. There will be a lot of points in this way, because the NW run defense is not good enough to make MSU go to 3rd down very often. While I agree that MSU will run, I think they will have a lot of big runs, thus keeping ball control relatively even. I am on the over at 53, and I think that's a good third quarter number. My book has MSU -5, and I am thinking about it, but with the line dropping still, I may wait and see if I can get 4.5.

I know you have a pretty good handle on Sparty football, but under in this game, depending on weather, is a loser waiting to happen. Keep stating that NW's defense against the pass is terribly bad. Look at who they've played, and look at the numbers. Almost 300 yards a game given up and haven't played a team that averages that. Coach D is back on the sidelines and surely if I know this, than he does. Look for Sparty to try and expose this teams weakness. If the weather allows it, I see 30 plus for MSU and low 20's for NW. A little generous giving NW 20, as they haven't faced a defense as good as this yet. Going to have to be turnovers for NW to get them in the mid 20's IMO. Not hard to imagine a 60 plus total in this game. BOL and GO GREEN

When it comes to this week.... NW is a over-valued team...their record is misleading as they have played nobody. The times I have watched they have shown me very little when it comes to defense and running the ball... which is big ten football.

Persa is a solid QB but will be facing the best defensive unit he has faced this season. The NW defense will face the best offense its faced all season.

Kirk Cousins showed alot of guts versus Illinois... he was not good in the 1st half and came out and played great the 2nd half. If they don't stack the box you will see running plays all day and NW will get worn out 2nd half.

NW will score in this game. Egbert is a solid player and if Persa gets hot they can move the ball through the air in a hurry.

Problem is they need alot of things to go right in order to win. If MSU wins the turnover battle they win easy. NW needs to force turnovers and will have to avoid turnovers themselves.

I still think MSU will win by 7+ and will set-up the showdown with Iowa next week.

The Good For State:

MSU improving every week
MSU moved from 13th to 8th having Alabama before them at 7th. A team with a loss being ranked higher could create inspiration.
MSU's O putting up solid numbers
Northwestern really hasn't beaten anyone noteworthy. In their 2 Big 10 games they won by 1 at dog ass Minnesota and lost to marginal (being kind) Purdue.

The Bad For State:

MSU moved from 13th to 8th. Will this create overconfidence vs. a "lesser" team?
MSU coming off Homecoming win facing a "lesser" team with a look ahead to Iowa?
MSU coaches could be prone to pull key players if the game gets
N'Western had extra time to prepare and it's Homecoming

Having watched both teams this year, State has looked head and shoulders better than everyone else they've played. Northwestern on the other hand, well, I'm underwhelmed. Given the disparity in talent level, -5 looks reasonable to lay. To me, the biggest gamble will be where MSU's head is. This coaching staff seems to have their collective shit together and keep them in it.

The Wildcats will start the chant.."bring back Barnett."
