and it’s about impact of new coordinators in week 1..
we know how much the loss of a coordinator can hurt or drop a team but the the question is:
If a former coordinator had a lot of success, got hired away and the staff went in house and knows the offense (with the same players) how much of a drop off can we expect?
The main impact would be the play calling of course …but there is also connection to the players/coaching styles..ect..
I just think coordinators are unique and can’t find a lot of instances where coordinators came in and picked up exactly where they left off…

Why does the loss of a coordinator drop a team? Teams make moves all the time to promote guys or find a new guy that significantly improve the unit he is coaching. Think you have to place a fairly significant weight on who the replacement is, how the scheme differs and if the team has the personnel in place.

It’s just a general question.. trying to gauge how hard it is to replace a really good coordinator… like the WKU coordinator and that offense that went to Texas Tech.. they hired from within.. and of course Zappe and those players are gone but I’m trying to gauge how efficient that WKU offense will be with a guy they just promoted… they said he knows the system well and he has a good grasp of the offense but I’ve never seen an “ in house guy” duplicate great success running a previous system…
Even at UCF… The Milton years with Jeff Lebby leaving… in comes Heupel… just wasn’t the same… even with most of the same players back…
My gut says there will always be a drop off but trying to get peoples opinions…

I'd look at the continuity of the new scheme and players .. same O or D .. 3-3-5 conversions seem to be trickier .. they got legit players who fit into the brand new STAR-JACK-DOG-BONE-HUSKY-CYBORG position? .. point is coordinators like football teams are so different and such a case by case I wouldn't try to parse them out by attributes like internal / external hire .. does the OC have a QB that played the same scheme? .. does the run coordinator or OL coach have his best OL's back and good depth? Same for DC's unless they are portaling in tons of guys they really like you kinda want to see they return some good football players ..
For WKY I think its Co-OC's and these guys came in I believe same time as Kitley from some really small schools .. I can't remember maybe like Valdosta State. good move is to check those old schools, same look / style?.. In this case I would bet money that when Kit was hiring his staff he was happy to bring in some small school guys who knew his offense cold and comfortable playing his brand of high risk boom or bust offense .. I don't think we can rely on Doege topping Zappe for most passing yards in history lol and the real bothersome thing is with all that spreading the field they only get 4 yds per rush? ... that's adjusted down for sack yds lost but they had maybe the lowest sack rate in history too .. really only had about 4/carry .. eek .... If the run game is not MUCH better and they're playing the same way I think the boom/bust ratio could make things a bit ugly for them.. And recall even w all that BOOMIN last year there was def a ceiling for them .. lost to UTSA twice, Army .. Indy wasn't such a dud early but struggled moving the ball vs them .. Rolled Marsh in the final score but Marsh's D did punch them hard in the first half before the flood gates opened .. Could rely on Zappe to survive being down a couple TD's LY but he was pretty special ..
Tough to get a handle on them at this point I'd really look close at that run game and some improvement on D .. We know they're gunna be big favs in alot of games starting off w Austin Peay and Hawaii and a CUSA schedule .. maybe they stay a value even w a drop in the pass game by picking up the slack on the other ends but if not they might have quite a few scoreless possessions that leave their opponents in good field position .. wouldnt check the final score or pass stats vs Austin Peay or Hawaii, they should kill both of them but if they can't run the ball vs those teams and off B2B blowouts I'd expect they'll be way overrated and get smacked around by Indy ..

Was waiting for your novel bridge.. lol Always love the perspectives..
Yeah so a lot of schools want a replica of what they just had, which is why they go in house… because the guy promoted knows exactly the ins and outs of the program… but what you are saying is …you think they put their own twist on it?
I get if a new a guy comes in from another school their will always be a change but the in house guy is instructed most of the time to keep it exactly the same and I’ve just never seen one of these “ in house guys” keep the ship sailing with the same efficiency…
