This is not an exaggeration. KU fans still hate Roy like he left yesterday. I just don't understand it.
Larry Brown gets them on probation, and Roy Williams picks them up and rolls for 15 years.
To those who say we are Ku it won't matter who the coach is.
It took 5 years and a run of double digit seeds and a "hold your breath" at the buzzer to Davidson's last possession to get back in the Final Four.
A coach makes greatness not tradition. Ask Indiana.
I will be happy either way Saturday. KU wins, I'm happy my team won, if Roy wins I'm happy for him too.

I am with you 100%. I have not followed that link yet, but I agree with your statements. I have no bitterness toward Roy. I was a freshman the same year he came to town. I loved what he did for that program. I was a little upset when he left, but only because he stayed the first time they came calling. I always expected him to go, but when he stayed the first time, I fell into the belief that'd he be there until he retired. That's why I was upset when he left. It didn't take long to get over, but it was shocking when it first happened.
It seems like you may be a little down on the state of KU basketball right now. "It took 5 years and a run of double digit seeds and a "hold your breath" at the buzzer to Davidson's last possession to get back in the Final Four." I think Self is doing one hell of a job. They did struggle, getting knocked out early in the beginning, but I don't know that any of Roy's guys bought into Self's style. I am happy with what has happened. If you look at Roy's last decade, KU is currently ahead of that pace, under Self. As long as my alma mater continues to perform at a high level and stay out of trouble, I am fine with this success.

I respect what Bill has done no doubt. But, comparing it to what Roy did is not correct.
Roy went the the Final 4 twice in his first 5 years and was on probation his first year and still won 19 games.
He won National COY once for sure, and maybe twice in that span if I'm not mistaken?
Alot is at stake Saturday night for KU fans in terms of getting over what Roy did. If KU wins, it was all worth it. If they lose to UNC, the hate builds stronger instead of KU fans getting over Roy leaving. In my opinion.

Without Roy, KU is probably not where it is today. His style of play brought kids in at a rough time. It is hard for any school on probation to make it through at such a high level. By comparing, I am not saying Bill could have done the same thing. But I do not see a drop off. The style has changed some, but not as much as I had feared, and I am honestly content with Bill. He was who I had hoped would replace Roy when the initial UNC job came up. There is a lot at stake tomorrow night, but it is not the end of anything if they lose. It may make things sting a little deeper at first if they lose, but in the long run it may help the healing as well.

Bigdog , you are wrong . You are not giving Williams his due . He took KU over in a bad situation .Certainly he has an advantage at both KU and NC in recruiting talent , but he still has to be responsible for wins and losses.
BigCasino , I respect you for your support for your team and your Coach . If KU is unhappy with Self , the Cowboys would love to have him right now and Pickens may make him an offer he cannot refuse .He is an alum of OSU .Watch out .

but coaches are still responsible for putting the players in a position to succeed bigdog. Obviously Kansas has a long, rich tradition of success and RW obviously had a major hand it keeping it going ||Peace_5.gif' border=0>

I have a hard time understanding the disdain KU fans still harbor for Williams . He did not just blow in and then leave . He spent 15 years at KU and cleaned up the mess left by Brown .KU fired the AD that hired Williams and the new AD gave him no support . How many coaches spend 15 years in one spot . His wife's family was from NC and his daughter went to school there . But most significant was his ties to Dean Smith . It is time for KU fans to bury this hatchet , thank Williams for his work at KU , and get over it . To raise this grudge now is disrespectful to the work that Self has done .

BOL Bigcasino . I hope your team will be cutting down the nets .||clover.gif' border=0>
