There may be some very real truth in that. Sometimes the hardest part is saying "I don't HAVE to play a game just cause its televised or it looks somewhat decent"

I'm gonna bump this so that others might be able to learn from its lessons early in the season and not suffer the same fates that many of the posters in this thread did.

Man, that's it.  Dude Today I am up and happy as hell.  Know why, because I used patience, I can't believe I have been so patient today.  Alot of games today other than the 2 big hits I hit today I just didn't feel comfortable betting on.  And I left them all alone and at the end of the day i'm still up.

I still looked for opportunities, but I didn't like much of what I saw later in the day today.  And I actually learned from just chillin on the side line after my two early wins.  If I can stay composed and patient, I think I am gonna win big this season.  It feels great to have self-control right now.

I know it's early, but you just gotta relax.  And it's not the end of the world if you don't bet on a game just because it's there.

1 last piece of advice or just rant from me.  Leave those long shot ML's alone.  The will only burn you in the end, most times if a underdog covers they don't win.  I have a problem with that, that i'm working through right now.  I see those big +MLs and I can't sometimes help myself but to want to try it and come up big off one bet.

Those are more hurtful than anything, cause usually it's a tease even if a big underdog is up or winning, they have to fight like hell to actually win.  And sometimes those type games go into like 1 or 2 OTs.  It ain't worth the stress my brothers, just take all them damn points and be happy if they just cover and don't get blow out.  Words to live by.....

Quick add: I meant usually those type games can go into OT or more than 1 OT and the favorite still ends up winning by like 1 or 2 points.  That shit hurts man, and I can't bare the pain of anything like that anymore so I will no longer try it.  Easier said than done, but I am working through my problem, LOL.......

I need to settle up with my local again.....need take the approach as kaponofor3 mentioned.....just because it is on the teley, i do not need to bet on it....if it as sure thing, it is not.   need to go back betting one game a night......wager within reason....if i lost one, do not chance the lose.  there is alway time to regroup.....as the rule of thumb, wager what you are willing to lose....stay within your means.....you will not go into sane. 

Now that i have mentioned that, i need to practice what i am preaching.

Here are a few notes of what I've learned and I've won quite a bit over the last 3 years.

80% straight bets keep parlays under control
1 or 2 units per play
When I bet 5+ units on a sure winner I get my ass kicked
I hedge any positive parlay as soon as I can ring up half the cash rather than letting a parlay play out. Less reward and slower gains.
Go small on the Glorious "Big" matchups like unc vs. osu
Build a vocabulary of teams and matchups
Learn small school stats and blogs
Tail good cappers if you analyzed the same game not just out of your ass tailing.
Skip the late games sometimes to research tomorrow
If I'm down, I bet less not more. Stuckey mentioned to me....this is a marathon. Very true so I don't double down ever on a loss.

I use to hit pretty hard...  3 years ago I deposited $500..  hit an insane run going 175-36..  Long story short, this was the break in my life.  I cashed out in the bank $44,000 in 3 mths...  *neteller was around then and I had the neteller debit card.. boy was that great.. Nothing beats going to the atm every day 11am and cashing out $480 ($20 below the max bcuz of atm card fees and limits)   .. 

I have heard ALOT of good motivating things in this thread.  For those who want to be successful listen and listen well.  "THIS IS A MARATHON NOT A SPRINT "  deposit $200 and say this is all i got...  If i lose im out for 2 weeks ...  or deposit 400 and say if i lose im out for 4 weeks..
The whole idea here is to keep you away from chasing.

I put in 200 11/3/2009 and make it a goal to cash out every 8 days atleast 200 but at the most 300. 

I never play more then 3 games a night usually 2.
my first bet is between 15-30..  second never more then 10.. if i lose the 2nd i will hit the 3rd with 20.. if i lose.. thats where i stop.
I have done well with this in the last mth and hope it continues..

This works out to be a nice bonus at the end of every week for me... by no means am i making what I did 3 years ago.. but I am happy with making anything because I love the action.    Stop seeing it as a hobby and start seeing it as an investment account that matures at the end of every week..  and its up to you to allocate the portfolio.

takes alot of discipline but i know anyone can do it.

i forgot to mention..
When you have discipline... NOTHING FEELS BETTER then winning your 1pm game and saying.. arite im done for the day..   i made my $30 bucks .. and going out with the wifey or the boys to a rippers joint.
make it a secondary not a primary to your life and you will win

I JUST WANT TO SAY TO EVERYBODY ON THIS POST AWESOME JOB.
THE REASON I SAY THAT IS THAT WE ARE GETTING A GOOD AMOUNT OF FEEDBACK FROM PLAYERS EXPERIENCE WITH BETTING TOO MUCH, AND WHEN MONEY IS IN THE BANK THEY STILL GET GREEDY THINKING THEY ARE ON A RUN ONLY TO LOSE IT ALL BACK AT NIGHT.

The worst feeling is going 4-0 in the morning having couple grand in your acct, only to know at night going 0-4 to waste it all and losing because the juice.

to be honest it happens to me week in and week out.

i always said its capping is not about picking winners really, anyone can pick winners,BUT can they protect their winners.

Im the same Effing way! when i get pissed I try to up my bets and end up costing me!!!!!!!!!

perfect example was texas yesterday but after MCcoy went down my heart just sank and i knew i was done!!!!!!! so its my fault for not practicing good money management!!!
