Any way Valdez is just opening? I have not looked into the game
As long as it is not Verlander or Cole Lance Lynn should not be a home dog to anyone on the Astros staff. It won't be one of those, they pitched in the ASG and would kill Hinch if he suggested they needed an "opener". Even Miley should balk at that.

The one thing that Valdez has going for him is a tremendous ground ball rate. Wind howling out in that hot stadium. All though, he still has to be effective with his pitches regardless. And he hasn't in his last 2.
Lynn looks a lot like pre Tommy John Surgery Lynn to me. Best K to BB rate of all starters in the mlb.
The stros have great plate discipline, the Rangers do not. Kinda want to see the ump in this game.

Astros are trying to break up the 1 2 punch of Verlander and Cole, by throwing Miley in between it may give teams a different look as their pitching styles are a bit too similar. Curious to see how long this experiment will last.
Valdez typically doesn't get shelled until the third time through, but he was horrible his last two starts and was yanked after three in both losses to the Yankees and Pirates.

This is definitely a good move. Sandwich a ground balling cutter heavy lefty between 2 high velo strikeout guys. Keep lineups uncomfortable. I'm wondering if Verlander's comments about the juiced ball gave pitching coach Brent Stram incentive to help him out?
Stram in my eyes is a top 3 pitching coach in my eyes. Ray Searage, Kyle Snyder, Brent Stram...that's your top 3 in no particular order. It's not a coincidence that so many pitchers were dealt between these 3. Archer(rays/pirates)
Morton(pirates/stros/rays)
Cole(pirates/stros)
Glassnow(pirates/rays)
Imagine if Morton and Keuchel were still part of this rotation. Then they wouldn't be f*cking around with Valdez and Peacock as starters. I think they will be buying one more arm before the trading deadline. Don't be surprised if they acquire a relatively young guy who's underperformed but has a ton of arm talent. Zach Wheeler comes to mind.

I understand what you say, but apparently Searage has not had a positive effect on Archer. Surprisingly poor season. Glasnow gone , Archer in, looks a bit of a mistake so far.

Yeah, 2/3 of an inning and another reliever. Don't blame the books, the public played right into that line. Books don't have to handicap the games, just their customers.
