I haven't seen much of the Avs - Flames series and see the line is Flames even where I shop. Is it a good play? Has Smith been a problem? If I played it, I'm thinking Flames win tomorrow and go back to Calgary tied at 2. OR just stay away completely???

Avalanche outplayed the Flames pretty bad the last two games (last one especially). I wouldn't be confident in that bet at all. But then again, I wouldn't be confident in betting the Avs to win the series either.

I still like Cgy but I had TB to win so what do I know
I don't know $hit either. I thought Pittsburgh would do better than they are too, glad I didn't invest in them. I took TB series after game 1, hedged tonight with CBJ ml and pl so it didn't sting as much. Congrats to CBJ - they earned it.
GL the rest of the way VANBUCK

Similar conference positioning situation as Tampa and Columbus although to a lesser extent. Calgary knew they would be in the playoffs for some time, while the Avs had to play their way in. Grubauer was hot down the stretch and Calgary's goaltending was a platoon situation all year whereas now they are obviously trying to ride with one in Mike Smith, arguably the 1b of the platoon situation all year but the one with the veteran experience and big contract. The problem is, every time I have watched Calgary and/or had money on them this year when Smith has been in net, he has let in that one soft backbreaker goal to either lose a tight game or halt a possible comeback. Smith played great in Calgary and the Avs still walked out with a split...I think game 3 was more on par with how Smith's season has gone and I worry that the coaching/management staff in Calgary will have the mentality of going down with the ship instead of making a switch to Rittich if needed, or only when it might already be too late.
The other thing I think about is this is a Colorado team that played Nashville very tough in last year's 1st round when Nashville was all the rage and thought to overmatch the Avs by a long shot. I also see this Avs team, despite their up and down regular season, as one that has taken a step forward and can build off that round 1 loss. They have a young core and it's scary to think that Mackinnon is only 23, Rantanen 22, and they could still be getting better. They were the hottest line for the 1st two months of the season and although they tailed off a bit they seem to be clicking again at the right time which is a big problem for the Flames. Colorado lost Girard but it's ridiculous to think they could so easily replace him with a similar type, if not more dynamic version, of Dman in Makar. I think this Avs team is the real deal if the goaltending holds up.
I don't want to discount any of Calgary's playoff experience but they missed last year and don't have the momentum of consecutive years in the playoffs to build on. Does it matter...who knows, it might.
Contrast everything I said with the frustrating reality that the more I usually write about a topic the more wrong I seem to be lol...
All in all, I'd probably lay off the Flames series line, I think they're in trouble...might have even just convinced myself to take a long hard look at the Avs series line or even series handicap -1.5 if I can find it.

Being a Flames fan I would not consider taking them in the series. They are no where near the Avs compete level right now. The Avs have out played them badly. Monahan and Gaudreau have been invisible. They have gave up 5 goals or more and lost during the regular season all 8 times they won the next game.. If that doesnt continue tonight. They will not win this series.
