For the Phillies to get anywhere close to their moneys worth for this guy they are going to have to win multiple world series titles. I personally dont think they will win one. I realize it is not just his fault the the Nationals constantly underachieved. The Phillies are pissing a lot of money away on a guy who hit .249 last year and has driven in 100 runs exactly once. Anyway I put a $5000 bet down with a buddy of mine that the Phillies have zero world series titles with this guy over the next 13 years.

“The Phillies are pissing a lot of money away on a guy who hit.249 last year....”This is the current state of MLB. Maybe they can get the shift banned to help him get his average up.

Ha. A question for you after telling you a bit about me. Also have a bet with him on the raiders not winning two super bowls in the next 10 years. I am risking $25k to his 2k. He won a bet we had for $5k. I said Lebron would not win a championship after leaving Miami. I guess you can do this stuff when you make almost $2400 a week as a Major in the Air Force. I have had no debt for over a decade other than the essentials, food, phone etc. The Air Force paid for the majority of my three degrees. I have driven the same Rav4 since 2000. I have $50k in a safe in the closet just because. I think that is coming from very humble beginnings and a sense of security. Maybe I am wrong I am an entomologist not a psychologist. I bought a 1971 unused super bowl ticket a month ago for $6800 just because. I retire in six years and will have a a pension around $5800 a month for life. Why would I not place a bet with a friend? Second why would I lie about it? Now you have the facts and make an educated decision

I am in my mid 40s. That comment was made due to my profession being in the military. Have been and will be going to dangerous areas in the world and there is always a chance of not returning. That would most definitely void the bet
A lesson for you both. Don't make uninformed decisions before understanding the circumstances. Don't worry I have learned that life is to short to hold grudges. Follow my baseball picks starting in a few weeks and I will make some money for you.

I disagree about the rbis. He will turn into a solid RBI producer for the next 5+ years and while may not quite hit 40 hrs he will come close Nd maybe do so once or twice. He is a top 10 pick in fantasy. I would want him on my team. He is going to make citizens bank park look like Colorado and it is the best fit for him because of how he hits in that park in my opinion. I hope nothing for the best for him, as a Red Sox fan, there is no reason to root against this guy.

There are 3 guys only (non starting pitchers) that deserve this amount of money given their offensive production and their outstanding defense: Mookie Betts, Mike Trout and Christian Yelich.
Then you have the second tier with Judge, JD Martinez, (no way a DH with ZERO defense deserves as much money as the 3 above), Lindor, etc.
And then you have Bryce Harper and the rest of the very good but not GREAT. Harper is a very significant short term upgrade, but this contract will hurt the Phillies big time in the long run.
However, there are two things to note for this season, and why I like the Phillies. The "aces" in the NL East are all right handed, and there are not many good left handed pitchers. Bryce against right handed pitchers has a .900 OPS. And also, the Philies most relevant move is actually JT Realmuto (who also bats better against RHP). Knapp and Alfaro had a horrendous bat (low .700 OPS and .600 OPS), and thats why the Phillies went for Wilson Ramos in the end of last season. Now they get Realmuto who had a .825 OPS playing at Marlin Park! Realmuto, Hoskins and Harper (McCutchen leading the pack, with McCutchen, Segura, Franco who all have decent bats; a bullpen with Robertson, Seranthony and Nesheck; Aron Nola. Watch out.

Hey Alien. I know what you are saying. However I have a plan for when I get out. Building a large log home and buying a pickup truck and a leisure car. Just staying the course.
Harper. I just don't get the hype. I understand the upside is there but he has not really lived up to a ridiculous $330 million contract.
I mean you look at Harper last season. Those numbers are mighty close to Dave Kingman numbers from back in the day.

Machado got 30 million a year, Harper getting 25.4 a year is pretty good value on the open market
Phillies have sold over 300K in tickets since the signing was announced, followed by all time record sells in jerseys so they are already making a shitfull of money off him before he played a game, As most major signings in baseball the Phillies will dread the last couple years of the contract as Harper will be a flailing DH ( DH is coming to the NL sadly in the next couple years) but Harper will be well worth it the next few years especially if he helps them land Trout
