BT is gone. Obviously, Little Gary now wants him to go to Vegas
But it can't be Leonsis acting like JJ - my impression is he would be generous. Maybe their GM is the idiot? Or was BT so pissed at not getting extended earlier that he decided to F off and take big $$$$ in New York?

Barry Trotz had a clause in his contract where if he won the Stanley Cup he could accept a two-year extension with a $300k bump in salary. Obviously since he was only making $1.5M, low by today's NHL coach's standards, a $1.8-million salary doesn't cut it. So Trotz stepped down.

Lipps,
Leonsis spends freely. Hard to believe he wouldn't open up the purse here, no matter what the clause said. Or is it just him allowing the GM to do his job?

I can't understand why some lower teams hold on to coaches and GMs as long as they do and here the team wins the cup and a few weeks later the coach is gone.
I know the odds of Washington winning again next year are slim, even with Trotz, but this sends a bad signal to fans and the team when you can't reward the coach with a bit of the extra money you brought in during the cup run.
Nothing surprises me in the NHL anymore.
