How do we get all referees in every sport to not control or dictate the pace and in some cases outcomes of games ?
Bill Rafferty, a old school announcer was dead on in his accessment of the officiating. Let the athletes play the game. Do the referees think that their constant whistle blowing is fan friendly ? It's bad enough the viewers have to deal with ad sponsored TV time outs, but when you have the excessive foul calling watching becomes very tedious. And, Although I agree that video replay is beneficial, why does it take 3 minutes to decide obvious play calls ?
The 1st 10 minutes of the 2nd half in a championship game, 21 fouls were called. Almost, 2 fouls per minute with a 30 second shot clock. Gonzaga went almost 8 minutes without a FG but made 10 FT's to stay within striking distance. Of course, Carolina's terrible 3 point shooting helped as well.
To me the only sport watching that is not altered as much is Ice Hockeyand possibly soccer. At the very least, the stoppages are minimal.
Any thoughts ? Or, ideas how to change the way games are called ?

College basketball officiating can and always will be at times subjective. That's the problem. Inconsistency. What may be a foul at 2 minutes, isn't with 10 minutes. I thought most of the fouls called tonight were fouls but there's no question there was a loose whistle on both ends and a few calls were flat out missed. Again though, too much subjectivity imo.

Or, maybe us fans should be able to call in the following day to have officials review rules infractions and deduct points or in the golf case 4 strokes from the golfer's score. Absolute Ridiculous !

The problem is Unions. These friggin blind as a bat Old I lets that can't pass a drivers test in their geriatrics age can see garbage. Look at MLB Umps. Those fat behind out of shape Old guy miss calls left and right and were resistant to replay because it shows how teeeibke some are. They hate HD TV because it too shows in detail the error of their ways. I know the game is fast but it's a known fact the older one gets, the worse their eyesight gets. At least the NFL just lets the oldest isolated wear a zebra hat and announce the game in between plays. I can barely stand Zebras as much as sports writers, but that's another rant.
