- can the Owls superior talent translate to road victory after losing badly in same matchup last year (thanks to TOs)
- how much wishbone will Army run and how effective will it be
- motivation of teams, below DiMechele quote already gives some indication Temple may be ready
Which game on the 2008 schedule are you most looking forward to playing? "I'm looking forward to the first game against Army. We owe them a little bit of something from last year. They really took it to us in the second half of that game. The most important game is always the next game. I'm definitely looking forward to Army and putting on a show, just progressing from last year to this spring to summer camp."

As the calendar begins to move toward the beginning of football season, the renovations at West Point’s Michie Stadium are pushing ahead.
The old artificial surface has been removed and the base for the new FieldTurf has been installed. On Wednesday, work crews began laying down the new playing surface at one of American’s top destinations for college football. Beginning from the North end of the stadium, the FieldTurf will be laid down in time for the August 1 beginning of practice.

Temple looks like they should beat Army good. Kinda scares me laying pts with Temple. They got a bunch of people back, but still averaged just 16.42 pts per game lastyear playing in the defeneless MAC.
On the other hand, There defense was actually pretty decent lastyear so I could see them holding Army to 7 or less.
I figure both teams will be looking at this game as a chance for a rare win.

kaplan - also interesting to see if Army goes with Williams or fairly high ranked freshman at QB, given the new offense and Williams rushing stats last year at -123 he may not be the best fit as running QB when the frosh can run, so it's either an experienced QB that I could tackle or a frosh QB in his first game and new offense for both
bustin - go to see you around, yeah it's not one of my top 6-8 games from capping perspective, just like to use week 1 to force myself to look at each team so I'm ready for later weeks and season in general. It looks like week 2 has some sweet matchups although trying not to look ahead much past first week.

This looks like a game I want to stay far away from
You and approximately 300 million other Americans
But seriously its interesting to get a discussion about such an off-the-radar game like this, could be helpful to someone in finding an edge they never would've otherwise.
Just looking at the stats from last years meeting Temple outgained Army 463 to 330 yet lost 21-37. So a significant misleading final and Temple returns their whole team intact. Nostradamus12, your line of -4 is too low but a 13 point Temple win seems a valid prediction, it'll be interesting to see the real line.

The wild card in this game is Army's offense. Some changes are definitely coming down the pipe...
Temple is also going to be filling a different role this year. They are definitely not the "hunted" yet. But I think there are enough folks that are now aware of this team, that they will start to see consistently better efforts from their opponents. Don't doubt for one minute that the kids and coaches at Army know they won't be expected to do well in this game.
Temple has only been a favorite twice in the last five years and never as a road chalk in that timespan, so this is a totally different situation. Their last two excursions as the favored team both ended badly with SU losses.

I like this battle of the losers also... My money will be on Temple I like that they return 11 starters on both sides of the ball and return 53 players from last year and only lost 2... The lack knights on the other hand only return 4 starters on both sides and return 38 and lost 40...Also like the fact that Temple ended up 44th on defense while Army finished 106th...

apparently Army did not show any offensive plays/scheme in the spring game, choosing to play a defensive scrimmage - offensive scout team against 1st team defense
Army has some core defensive guys back - 2 LBs and DL Bentler, if the total gets over 50 the under could be in play as expect Army to grind the clock with new offense although will know more in fall camp..possibly
