murray blew it in the non-conference plain and simple. I feel bad for them, but the #25 ranking was silly. They had one single top 100 win, Illinois st. Excellent season but not at large worthy.

Rankings have become nothing more than a tool for the networks to market their "match ups". The fact that rankings come out before any teams even play a game shows how pointless they are.
As far as who gets in and why, what can you say. These smaller conferences, you have to win your tourney or risk being left out. Sucks for them, but what can you do. The bottom line is that they aren't a contender to make a deep run, nor are any of the other bubble teams from bigger leagues either. Sure sometimes a double digit team makes a deep run, it happens, but it's still a more rare occurrence.

The tournament is not about whether anyone "cares" about a team or "giving them a shot". All the small conferences get an automatic bid. After that it's the best at large teams.
Murray State isn't even Top 75 on the numbers and they played a schedule that's right around 250. They have no business getting an at large berth.

Agree with the above poster. Top 25 rankings are utter nonsense. Their most useful purpose is duping ill-informed bettors into thinking they actually mean something.

And they won't.
Murray State, and teams like them, have had great success in the tourney over the years. What kind of schedule can they play? Sometimes the "numbers" don't mean garbage. You look at a team and you think, "this team can kick Iowa's behind". Or some dog like Iowa. Can't it work like that ever? Do you think most committee members actually watch a team like Murray?

Your contention that "Murray State, and teams like them have had great success in the tourney" is false. Sure, there's an upset here and there, but that's not "great success".
It's really simple. You want a tournament with the best at large teams or a bunch of feel good stories?
This tournament is the best there is for a reason. The teams that have earned bids get them. It's not a popularity contest.

They absolutely have a great story of success...G Mason, Wich St, Butler...with so few even getting a chance they have a very good success rate
I would much rather see a Murray St team get a chance, then a Texas team who went 8-10 in confer with their only roads wins being @TCU and @Ttech

This happens every year it seems like. Its a huge money grab at the end of the day so they always make room for the Indianas and Texas'. Not picking on these two but neither is a tournament team this year. Like SMU last year Murray ST will get screwed this year.

It is what it is. Murray St couldn't beat the bottom feeders in one of the major conferences. If they had a stronger strength of schedule, that would justify them being in, but their weak SOS and their struggles in their conference tourney buried themselves. They have no one but themselves to blame.

Murray State had a small miracle rally to defeat Morehead State prior to losing the final.
You play cupcakes all season then you have to win your conference tourney to make the dance. Everybody knows that. Murray State knew that they needed to beat Morehead State and then Belmont and they couldn't do it.

Pack the committee doesn't look at the Top 25 as others have mentioned. Murray State is in a league where most people can't name 7 schools. They left a lot to be desired in NC play. Hell if Murray State was in the A-10 they'd be in. whether the committee wants to admit it conference matters
The 1 hope for Murray State is they need someone in that room to be their champion and say this team passes the eye test. Personally Murray could probably beat 20-25 teams that will be in the field of 68 but when you don't win your conference tourney in the OVC you are fu*ked

SMU got screwed. Murray St is no longer in the top 25.....
They had their chance to get in and didnt do it. They dont deserve to play in the Madness simply because they have a better record than teams that have played MUCH tougher schedules. Put them in any of the top 5 or 6 conferences and they might be eligible for the NIT with a .500 record.

Do you want to watch Murray State play or IU/Texas/OleMiss play the tourney? Exactly
I would MUCH rather watch Murray St got a shot at winning a few games then a Texas or Indiana team who shat the bed this year get in because of their NAME...
Indiana lost to E Wash at home, Texas was 8-10 in conf....neither team deserves to make it...Ole Miss just got rolled at home by Vandy
Fact is none of these team will probably win a game, but I would much rather see a team like Murray St get a chance

BOL the rest of the season pack
I agree....
Just being a fan of the game, I love the underdog and upsets...and the fact Texas and Indiana will get in because of history and their name kinda stinks...
Someone brought up playing a tougher schedule...that's fine....fact is Murray St won like 25 in a row...that's impressive no matter what league you play in
And the fact Texas is 8-10 in conf, should eliminate any talk of them making it

Cmon man! No one wants to watch Murray State! Cracks me up that you bring Texas conference record into play (maybe best conference in the nation). We would not be having this discussion if Murray St played in the Big 12+. Murray St played 2 descent teams outside their conference schedule and lost by 27+ to both teams. You can't make this shat up!

Murray St-Indiana. Murray St-Texas. Check the lines and we'll know who should probably be in. Murray-Iowa. Murray-Miss. They lost conf title game. We all know that. But so will the other schools mentioned.
I reiterate, schools like Murray have had great success in tourney. Not just an upset here and there.

Murray would lose to all those teams and they knew full well they needed to win to get in....and they didn't when the pressure was on....enough said....mid majors know what's in store
