I would like to walk you through something right now...a bit of a exercise if you will:
What is something that you are the best at....we all have it! I mean that one thing that you would put your life on the line for....defend your honor at every turn. For me it's pool. Here is (IMO) the evolution of how you get to be amazing at something:
1 - Start - This is where you start something new
2 - Good - now you are good at it..you can "hold your own" or so you think
3 - Great - Now you are great at it....you have put in a few years and you know your stuff
4 - Most amazing person who walked the face of the earth (or so you think)...This is the phase where when you do get "out played" they got lucky and you should not have been beat.
5 - I have a few things to learn - This is the first phase to greatness - you start to see all the subtle things you still have to learn. You recognize it's not just luck you are beaten...they know shit.
6 - I am a loser - This is where you are now good enough to realize how not good you are. You can now recognize just how good the people are above you and the journey you have yet to go.
7 - I still suck....but I am getting there...slowly. - this is where you are actually great at it...but all you now see is how truly AMAZING those above you are. This is the level where you beat a level 4 and when they say it's luck you just smile, remember being there and pat them on the back.
And so on and so on.
Anyways, I would say I am somewhere around level 5.2 on the whole gambling spectrum. I had my days thinking retirement was a hop step away. Now I see the big picture and I know what is ahead of me. With my eyes wide open I feel like I can really start making strides.
This is a weird lifestyle us sports gamblers live. For every up there is a down, but not for us?. I can cheer at the top of my lungs when my +1025 Lakers ML bet hit tonight but I can't put my fist through the wall when the Stars hit the last minute goal against the wings?
But I will say this....Being a sports gambler really does allow you to live one day at a time. Most people don't, they live for tomorrow, or next week, or the holidays they are on next month. Who really lives for today...RIGHT NOW?
Every morning we get to wake up and every day is the day every bet we touch is going to turn to GOLD! Our lives continue....work, family, friends, ect. But that bet we placed, that spread we did or didn't cover, that is ours! In that moment when you look at your phone and see your bet covered the spread or your team won in a shoot out....for that one second...we are ALL ALONE! No family, no friends, no work...just you and your glory! That is YOUR time! You are living that moment! Your not thinking about next week or next month! You are in the NOW moment.
I got my ass kicked in NHL tonight and I came out realizing I LOVE sports gambling. I love how I feel when I am placing the bets, I love how I feel when I win, I love how I feel when I lose (because I know tomorrow is right there).
Other than this thread every night, I never talk about sports gambling with anyone. Not my wife, my best friend, my family. No one close to me would ever know I am sports gambler. I feel like they wouldn't understand it, and I really don't want them too. But Christ, is it fun as all He.ll! And you can say it's all about the cash out....in the end maybe? But sports gambling makes every day the weekend, your birthday, Christmas morning, ect. I already can't wait to get tomorrow started!!
- Everyone who just read all that is like- Christ please talk to your friends so you don't vent all over Covers every night LOL)
