the disrespect of having to open on the road...getting spanked...home opener of the defending super bowl champs...extra time to prepare...lack of playmakers on Cle...Harbaugh coaching advantage...and I know he's not gonna throw 3 picks every week, but i can't trust Weeden at this point...
do you think Hayden neutralizes Smith? mite have a low scoring game...helps the doggy
I do think Hayden is very capable of neutralizing Smith, however more importantly the oddsmakers are telling you they feel Hayden will neutralize Smith by where they have set this line.
As I mentioned before, and as you have above, there is the long rest to prepare, the sore bum they should have from being spanked in prime time, the fact they are now the super bowl champs and the fact it is their home opener. On top of all this they are hosting a loser of a football team fresh off from being made to look completely feeble in their home opener against a less than mediocre Dolphins team.
So we have all that going on here and they give you the opportunity to bet on the Ravens at less than a touchdown? Hmmmm.
At bet365 the number has now dipped to an even 6 at even money so they are telling us the champs are only 3 points better than the Browns because 3 points is for home field. All this and that's where this line sits?? And keep in mind the last 4 seasons these teams have played in Baltimore the spreads were 11.5, 12.5, 12, 13.5, and now with the Ravens being the champs and along with the rest of the picture painted above we can get them 5.5 to 7 points cheaper than any of those seasons.
I think that in itself tells a story. Ofcourse nobody owns a crystal ball, not even the oddsmakers but the line certainly voices loud and clear their opinion on this matchup and of this version of the Ravens in general.
Just as I said about betting against the Pats so quickly in weeks 1 and 2, well at the exact same time I hit submit against the Pats for the first 2 games I also eagerly hit submit to play against the Ravens for weeks 1 and 2, and i'm expecting this game to make me 4 for 4 with those 4 wagers.

I think the line of 7 is spot on for multiple reasons . One, if the line were 12 or 13 i think you, me and my grandma would bet the browns. the lower spread seems like a combination of ravens getting blown out last week and losing a bunch of key players in the offseason...until they prove themselves they won't be favored by much more than a TD all year. At this point they may even be a tad undervalued. They're not like the Pats, who have been overvalued for years no matter what the circumstances.
I think this will be an interesting game. Don't forget you're betting on NORV!!! lol

Hey Polar, first time reading your thread, I haven't been on covers in a while.
I enjoyed the write-ups. I have mixed emotions on the Ravens game, you make great points and I actually was one of the people who felt the Ravens would get destroyed week one. I'm not sold on their defense or offense for that matter but I do think they are a better team than Cleveland. I see a bounceback game but the line does worry me I would have guessed it to be closer to -8 or -8.5

Yes betting on Norv is , but he's not the head coach he's the coordinator and I don't mind him in that position. As far as the number goes, while I will agree it shouldn't be in double digits, anything under 10 would have still gotten the majority on the Ravens quite easily. The number listed by the poster above seems more appropriate, I was expecting around 9 myself so it looks very easy at under a touchdown which is viewed as an easy number to cover. Being thumped on the road to Peyton and his team tha many expect to win the super bowl is one thing but being thumped at home by what most see as the lowly Dolphins in your home opener is quite another. Everyone was on the Browns last week and this week those same people are fading them at the conveniently easy to cover number. I mean the Dolphins just covered double digits against the Browns in Cleveland for the home opener. Shouldn't the defending champs at least be expected to do the same in their own stadium? Apparently not I guess. Ray Lewis was a leader but he had lost a step a long time ago as had Ed Reed and they made some nice additions do I don't see that alone as an excuse for them to drop off.
The Ravens and Pats are the same to myself by both being dominant AFC teams that I see as on the decline. Everyone thought the number against the Ravens was a joke last week but the only joke was the Ravens themselves, it was one of the easiest games on the board. The public image of the GQ Cover led Patriots is not comparable by any team so no not in that sense. But as a play against team on the decline they are the same to me until they prove different, and maybe they start proving that this weekend by blowing out the Browns. We'll find out Sunday. I've been wrong before and I certainly will be again, but hopefully I won't be here. Goodluck to you and Grandma with the Ravens

The Bucs have hurt themselves again but have also gotten raped by the officials today or that game is already in the bag for them, as it is the have been kicking the Saints in the nuts all day, hopefully they can hang on for a bit longer.
6-4 with the Bucs pending and also the Niners +13 pending to complete the final 10 point teaser of the week so no need to touch the late game.

Niners couldn't even cover the +13 in my 10 point teaser, what a bunch of queens. Won some money and got to see the Niners get smacked all over the field in Seattle again so that's a good day. I love seeing Harbaugh squint and shake his head as the arrogant prick tries to digest what he's being force fed. If Seattle eases up and the ferries somehow get some late garbage time scores i'll come back and correct. Stupid me for thinking these guys would make a game of this.
