That is definitely a comment worth considering - I don't know if Pitt and BYU would be considered "trendy" but I know what you mean.
It could be that the linemakers have not adjusted lines sufficiently yet and that the early season favs are good plays overall.
Really nice point - thanks

I respect all those on BYU. Some good arguments for them as well.
I got it at 7 and will ride it out. If it loses, well, these are the games you take a shot on.
After seeing Ohio go down in flames and Pitt crapping the bed, I don't have the stomach for trendy dogs who are clearly inferior in talent right now. If Texas doesn't cover or loses outright, so be it, I am running with the superior team in this game.

I agree that UT is the better team and should win. But as a previous poster pointed out. UT still has Mack Brown (suspect especially as of late) and Ash at QB (this guy is about as hot and cold as they come). In Macks years at UT he has struggled fairly significantly (for a school with the recruiting prowess of UT) in years when he did not have some of the bets college QBs ever (VY and Colt).
UT is the better team and should win fairly easily but I have a hard time being too confident about getting behind them.

I must admit, it is scary to see almost everyone I know on Texas, but sometimes you gotta trust your own capping and know that the public does win their fair share of games too.

BYU looks offensively challenged this year. Their display against a horrible Virginia team only proves that. QB was 13 for 40 against the Cavaliers.
Texas took a while to get going, but then the geyser opened. 56 points. 700+ yards.
Texas D is solid this year, heaps better than Virginia.
Is it the Provo altitude?
Why is this only -7?
HELP!
You are dead on with Texas-7. They struggled at the start of the New Mexico St game but after they shook off all the opening night jitters and got n-sync. Texas was scoring rather effortlessly like you said. And the defense of Texas was suprisingly effective considering how terrible the defense was last year.
It's a complete mismatch at quarterback. In Taysom hill's defense for BYU he has absolutely no o-line to protect him. Like last year. No O-Line. They were continuing to get to the QB. BYU's defense will be worn out.
Most of the BIG12 is going uptempo including Texas. From the practices the Texas defense will be prepared for uptempo offenses this year including BYU's on saturday. New mexico St was not a great example of the their defense because its.......new mexico st. But still This saturday we will see how much the Texas defense has really improved.
To BYU's credit it did rain in that game against Virginia and had to deal with weather delays for their slow start. So it did slow down BYU. BUT ALL EXCUSES ASIDE.
I don't see BYU keeping up with Texas offensively whatsoever. I can understand however why BYU+7@home could be a good underdog bet. Especially for a bounceback game from BYU which would be a good situational angle to take BYU+7 at home.
But for me Texas-7. There is plenty of motivation for Texas to continue the offensive onslaught with backs Overstreet, Johnson, and Bergeron. Why count on all those offensive weapons on that Texas team to have a off night including a QB David Ash who threw for 4 TDs and 343 yds also 2ints.
To me it's just too early in the season to take the dogs. Texas-7 longhorns roll

So far no one can talk me out of pounding Texas. This looks too good to be true.
The reason it is 7 is because they are on the road. If texas was at home they would probably be around 11-13 point favorites. Like OK St was vs Miss ST. OKST when they were 12.5 favorites Week 1. I think it's pretty accurate.
Don't Overthink it
What stays with me is how Texas can just flick a switch after playing terribly and after halftime score 42 points in the second half real casually. They were clearly looking ahead to this BYU game comng up knowing full well New Mexico St was no match for them. And that's how exactly they were acting till they cleaned it up in the 2nd half. Texas has the ability to blowout the game early in the game. And for BYU they don't have the offense to play from behind.

I smell trap here. These two are actually even on my power ratings. Texas does have higher stability. BYU had four loses last year 6 points or less, which is why the line is only 7. Texas is 32% ats in the past 4 seasons. BYU is 70% ats on the road last 4 years and 77% when UD's ats. I see a 3-4 point win IF Texas wins.

I really like Texas here. They got it rolling in the second half last week and were scoring with little effort.
BYU QB Hill last week was 13-40 175 yards or 32%. I would take the Texas D over Virginia as well. Home field is great if you are in the game come the second half, but if Texas is up a few scores early it wont matter where they are playing, all the air will be gone out of the stadium.
