Minnesota & Kansas City played a double header Saturday and the under cashed in all three games in this series so far. But can we really say that offenses could not hit the opposing pitchers ? Not really. There were 54 hits in those three games which is 18 hits per game. In all three games we had 1 pitcher pitching a bad game. Both games yesterday were on pace to go over the total after 5-6 innings played. There were 5 solo home runs and one 2 runs shot in this series and that explains why no more runs were scored. These two teams will get there today.
Chen pitched 25 innings in day games this season and his ERA in those day appearances is 7.56. His road ERA this season is over 6.00. He was already hit hard once in this same ballpark when he allowed 6 earned runs in 2.2 innings pitched earlier this season. In his last start he threw 99 pitches and that was his biggest pitch number in quite some time. Liriano day ERA is very high too standing at 5.64. In his last three starts he reached his season high in pitches thrown (104) twice. Both Liriano and Chen had a great game the last time they met and that game ended 1-0. The pitchers had 17 Ks and 2 walks in that game umped by Fairchild who leads all umpires with at least 2 games umped with the fewest runs per game scored this season. The batters will get their revenge today and they will be helped by P.Emmel who leads all umpires with 14 overs and just 1 under this season.

Blantons three longest games this season came in last four starts, when he threw 111, 114 and 115 pitches. He is stil a home run machine having allowed at least one home run in last 9 starts (15 long balls allowed in those 9 games). He is very hittable, and he struggles if the opposing lineup does not strike out a lot. Miami offense might not be good but they do not strike out a lot. There are 19 teams in the majors with more strikeouts than Miami. In this series alone Hammels had 5 Ks against Miami and it was his lowest number of Ks since early May and his lowest number of Ks this season. Lee had 3 Ks against them and that is his lowest number of Ks this season. If Blanton gets less than 6 Ks he is in trouble. In last 3 starts where he had less than 6 Ks he allowed 19 earned runs in 13.2 innings pitched. When he had exactly 6 Ks he allowed 10 earned runs in 13 IP in last two starts.
Nolasco threw 111 pitches in his last start and it was his season high. Even when he is pitching well his relievers just find a way to lose the game for him. In his last 4 starts his relievers allowed 21 runs in 14 innings pitched. He isnt really a strikeout pitcher and teams tend to get hits from him. Thats good news for Phillies who are ranked #3 in the majors in hits. In his only start against Philladelphia this season he allowed 8 hits and thats the most he allowed against Phillies in last 10 games he saw them.
The umpire for todays game is Dana DeMuth and in last 50 games he umped the over is 36-14.

The SD/COL series produced two overs so far but both were very close and the starters actually did well. The starters in this series allowed only 7 ER in 27 IP while the pens allowed 13 ER in 12 IP. Now that we have two weakest links in those two starting rotations we can expect more runs to be scored early on. Kip Wells and Drew Pomeranz pitched only 28 innings this season and their numbers were not impressive as they allowed 18 runs during that limited time. That maybe is not as bad as it should be since their respective WHIPS are 2.00 and 1.74. Kip Wells historically had hard time in Colorado and Pomeranz already struggled against SD even in their pitcher friendly ballpark. The over is now 23-8-2 in last 33 games played in Colorado.
Oakland/Texas Over 10.5
Probably the fishiest total today. Night game where everyone loves the under with two pitchers with very good ERAs. The problem is, everyone forgets that Oakland can hit on the road and that Texas offense can beat any total by themselves, on any given night.
T.Blackley pitched only one game in a hitter friendly ballpark and it happened in Arizona where he allowed 4 runs and left the game in the 5th inning. That was a game under the NL rules, going against an offense that is not even close to Texas offense. As for Darvish, I believe that Texas managment is overusing him right now as he has 110+ pitches thrown in last 5 starts. At some point they will pay the price for that. Oakland is the first team to see Darvish for the third time this season and that could be the edge for the offense. The first time they saw him they scored 1 run off of him in over 7 innings. The second time they saw him they scored 6 runs off of him in just over 5 innings.
