Have not stayed there in ten years, but as a first time Vegas trip you will love it,esp getting out of the cold also..Easy walk to other casinos and clean maybe small room but who cares first time.Have a nice trip !

P.S sign up for a players card any casino you may play table games/slots/video poker in..you'll be planning a return  as soon as you are in the airport going home and any action on those cards may give you a better room rate next trip.

Not really unless you are betting very large..but still maybe even small bets puts you in the system and may prompt a casino rate for rooms. That is the goal for the future bookings as opposed to coming in 'off the street' so to speak as you are now..

Hotel is awesome, All the rooms just got remodeled and they look great. Sportsbook is okay as long as they take bets and have tv's up its fine with me. Youre 20 steps from NYNY and Tropicana.

MGM Sportsbook does not accept mlife cards.

I want to place a bet on a game for 1000 on my first day, if that hits than I will keep playing , if not I will take in the sights and party with my woman.   Is 1000 going to be considered a decent sized wager in vegas?

toronto Joey, don't know you guy but if your blindly betting 1000 and main concern is if this is  considered a large bet or not, well, trouble maybe be on the horizon, MGM sports book is kind of lame, really just a connecting hallway with constant foot traffic milling about, fine to wager, not so much to watch the game, enjoy Vegas man, don't make any moves or bets based on what others may think, be your own man, go forward with confidence,,,as JFK once said,
If not us, Who
If not now, When

TJ, if your going to place a large wager and want to watch the game go to Caesers SP. Grab a small table with your gf and take it all in. If your looking for free drinks, find out what the min bet is and place multiples. enjoy and gl.

never liked to MGM SP. NC1 hit it squarely on the head with "is kind of lame, really just a connecting hallway with ..."

MGM is ok, nice location on the strip, has some good restaurants however the sportsbook is lame. If you can change hotels I would stay at The Wynn, Bellagio or Aria.

You won't be displeased with MGM. But like what everyone else said, if you want to bet a dime, maybe check out Caesars.

Whats so difficult to understand?
Its my God given right to drink free whatever in a casino when I have money on the line.

Just how I feel about it.
If the gitbags with their 20 dollar bill can get a free screw driver while playing on the penny machines, then I should be able to get a soda or whatever quenches my thirst when I place a 500 or 1000 dollar bet.

NC1Capper nailed it on this MGM sports book review. I did hang out there yesterday all day just because it is an easy bus ride down to the Thomas & Mack Center but I would not choose this sports book on a regular basis.

And I agree with Eldorado, if you want a better experience book your room at the Aria or Bellagio. The sports books are much better there.

And Toronto Joey, come on man...you know what I've been preaching the last 8 days over and over again... HAVE RULES AND OBEY THEM!!! Don't come out here to Vegas and lay a stack on some random a$$ bet/team/situation. I'd rather you make 10 $100 bets and hope to hit 6 of them and at least go home with your money and have fun in/with the experience. If you come out here and lay $1000 on one bet/game/line/situation and then go home empty handed without both the money and the fun experience of actually making a good wager, you will regret that big time.

But good luck bro!

mafioso,

I get what you mean when you say that those schmucks playing penny slots get free drinks then everyone gambling should get free drinks. But what I mean when I say "I don't understand" is I don't understand how it should really be a concern when you are betting $1,000 on a game....I agree though with you, people should probably get a drink ticket or whatever when placing a wager but the fact that people worry about this is crazy to me. Don't take it personally. BOL

Not taking it personally at all friend.
But a Guy like me hangs out at the book 2 hours before the am gamesand leaves the book when the last game goes final, my drink bill with tips would be over 120 dollars, 30 or 40 in tips alone is no problem but Ill be damned if I'm going to actually pay for the drink too.
No way, too many spots to wager at where you don't have to pay for a drink.

Toronto Joey,

Presuming your are from Toronto as your handle suggests, I will share my experiences as a fellow Torontonian who spends up to 6 months a year in Vegas.

1. MGM overall is a decent large, centrally located 4* hotel. Other MGM properties close by including Mandalay Bay, Bellagio and Aria are however much nicer 5* properties.

2. The Sportsbook is average and targeted mainly at squares who bet the favorites and the posted lines reflect that (meaning they are higher than they should be to balance the action). On the strip, there are generally 4 different Handicappers with my personal preferences as follows.

a) Cantor Gaming (Tropicana, Cosmopolitan). Better lines and betting options and no practical betting limits. At Cantor books, you can bet $50K on a game with no issues. No points on player cards and no free drinks. They also offer free mobile betting through a handheld device.

b) William Hill (Hooters Casino), right beside MGM. Good lines, shitty casino in bankruptcy. You bet and leave to go somewhere else to watch the game.

c) Caesars properties (Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Bally's Flamingo etc.). Targeted mainly at Squares who bet the favorites. The only Sportsbook worth watching a game at Caesars properties is Caesars Palace itself which is next to Bellagio on the west side of the strip. Caesars does give you points on their Total Rewards card. You'll normally get one to two free drink tickets for every $400 wagered. So a $1K bet would get you 2-4.

d) MGM properties (MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, NY NY, Bellagio etc.). Least competitive lines, no points on players card. In the area you will be staying, Bellagio has one of the nicest books to watch the game and all drinks including premium options are free in the book no tickets required. The seating area is small though, so it fills up fast.

3. $1K is not a large bet by Vegas standards. You'll need to bet at least $5K to get anyone even remotely excited.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

The MGM is sweet. The only problem is that the place is really hugh. The sports book is good but get there early so you will get a good seat. Don't know if your a horseplayer but if you are betting $20 win bets on horses can get you some free drinks. If your bank roll is large enough you can really enjoy the perks at most casinos in Vegas. As for your 1K wager you should have no problem making that wager at the MGM. Bet a college basketball game as its the best bet in sports betting. GOOD LUCK!
