The non-division winners in each league with the two best records will be the wild card teams, meaning it is now possible for a third-place team to reach the postseason. Each's league's wild card pair will face off in a one-game playoff.
Not sure what to think of this. Interestingly, it actually puts a bigger premium on winning the division. Before, it really didn't matter whether you got in by winning division or getting wildcard. Now it does. Still seems unfair that an 82 game division winner skates into the playoffs while a 95 win wildcard team has to win a single elimination game just to get in.
This should make the last couple weeks of baseball season even more enticing to gambling degenerates. I am licking my chops already, waiting to fade those overpriced chalks and cash some easy plus-money dog tickets.
doubleup i believe in a 5 game series the wildcard team should get 1 home game and in a 7 game series 2 home games. I've felt this way for 15 years. While the 2nd wildcard team helps i still believe the wildcard team is still not at enough of a disadvantage. Just my opinion
