Hi Darkhorse12,... Hi Golden Goose,

If you're referring to me as the same old guru .. I have no clue who will win.

Incidentally, in 2016 I changed my party affiliation to a registered Independent .   The Democrats had moved too far left... The Republicans too far right!

If we are to remain a great nation, we must recognize the wisdom of compromise. It is truly what made America great!

Hi Crusher, well the old mind is working great, but now the body is another story!  Except for my vision, it is ...  "2020"  !

One thing is obvious ... there will be a woman on the ticket on both sides. And, Pink will be in fashion.

Rams played well, but just as I figured, Inexperienced Goff picked off on the final drive.

Good bye, all, see you next year!

Hello all,

It’s me again, your old super bowl buddy, still alive and kicking . There’s an old saying ... “A serious football fan is never alone. We are a legion, and football is often the only thing we have in common”

As you know, I’m not a big fan of statistics. I prefer recent trends and take an overview of the game. I think my Super bowl record of 14-3 over 17 years is because it’s on a neutral field, and easier to figure.

Over the last few years the NFL has made further changes to protect the players.  No helmet to helmet, no hitting the quarterback below the knees, or hand to helmet. And, the defender is responsible for avoiding landing on the quarterback when taking him to the ground. It used to be that defenses win championships, that’s not necessarily true anymore. The NFL says they hit too high, they hit too low, too hard, whatever! Putting defenses at a huge disadvantage.  So offenses now have the edge, and good quarterbacks rule. As a result, there’s more scoring and longer careers.

Obviously, the Patriots have most of the advantages this year. More experience in championship games, coaching, and at quarterback, etc. It is very difficult to beat them. You may ask...how did the Pats lose last year?  Look at the play of Nick Foles.  He’s the reason I took Philly + 4.5, because of his experience. He bounced back and forth for seven years, but was a pro-bowl MVP.

His final drive before halftime was impressive, which included the 4th down “Philly Special “play.  Also, look at Nick’s 4th quarter winning drive of that Super bowl. Like Brady, every clutch pass by Foles was right on the money. So in my mind, the question is .. Can Goff win this game on the final drive, in a close game?  I doubt it.  I don’t think he has the experience to make the last pressure-packed drive!  Remember week-13 this year, when the Bears beat the Rams in Chicago? Not so unusual.  But, on week-14 the Rams were 13 point favorite over Philly in Los Angeles, Goff was picked off three times in that game, the Rams lost..

The Rams certainly have great individual players on defense, but I just don’t trust them.  For those reasons, I think the Patriots win this game.  It should be a high scoring game, the last two Super bowls in a domed stadium involving the Patriots, the total scores were 74, 62.
This year, the last four playoff games had a total of 49 points or over, and three of four were outdoors!  Further, after that bad no-call on New Orleans two weeks ago, the refs are ready to throw a flag on anything close.

My official pick for Super bowl 53 is ... New England – 2.5     Score, in the area of  34-27

A three way teaser is not a bad idea either ...New England + 7.5...L.A.Rams + 12.5 ...Over 46.5.

Good luck all !  See you next year, God willing!

Hello friends !

Yes, I'm still kicking! Thank God.

See you next Thursday.

It's prudent to wait a little before making a play. There are a lot of options.

Thanks,
Don Juan

Greetings to all, old friends and new ones.

I've been around here for 17 years. Getting real close to 80 now and they haven't put me away in a nursing home yet !

My Superbowl record 13-3  right here on Covers, (formerly Wagerline)

So here my take on Superbowl 52....

As some of you may know. I always take the Overview perspective. Star players don't mean that much to me, there are plenty, except the Quarterback.  Brady is just awesome. But you have to love Foles too. This guy never gives up. He played in a pro bowl too. And a fighter.

Belichick, Brady, years.. Super bowl results.

2002..  N.E 20.. STL. ..17.. .....37 total
2004....N.E 32...CAR.. 29........61
2005....N.E.24...PHI ....21..... .45
2008....N.E.14...NYG ..17........31
2012....N.E.17...NYG.. 21........38
2015....N.E 28...SEA...24........52
2017....N.E.34...ATL ...28........62..Overtime

As you may notice, all these games were very close. 6 points or less, win or lose.    I believe it's because Belichick is a very conservative coach.  He plays it close to the vest until he sees your hole cards..(game plan.) Then he attacks.  A counter puncher, so to speak.

Notice the Totals. 61 points or less, except for one overtime game.

Notice also, those game scores within 4 points, except for that overtime game last year by 6. Even if N.E. would have won the 2 games against the Giants in the final seconds, the games would be been with 4 points.

I think Belichick will figure a way to win this game, but history says it will be very close.

Therefore my official Superbowl selection Philly + 4.5

For those that like teasers.. The odds are perfect for a 4 way teaser. Because you get over Key numbers. 17 and 7.

Over 35, Under 61, Phil + 17.5. N.E. + 8.5  because I believe the score will be 24-21. or 24-20..... New England wins.

But I'm picking Philly to cover.

The term.. The NFL " the National Fixed League" is fixed and scripted  " is a very broad statement.

Is it the NFL owners as a group?  Or one particular owner ? Is it the management ? The coaches ? The refs, as a group ? Or a particular ref ?

To whom are you referring ? And, how are they fixing it ?

Answer please.

Okay, tell me the one game you would take ?  And  " HOPE"

As I said, this is the best week all year for a 4 game teaser.   I don't recommend playing teasers every week.

I'd rather have Philly at home PLUS 16 points < Minnesota at home PLUS 8 . Pittsburgh + 6 at home. and NE pick.

It's not that difficult.  This is the best week all season to play a teaser.

Simple.. Take all 4 teams that a home and rested after a bye !

Philly + 16
N.E,  Pick
Pittsburgh + 6
Minny + 8

This is your best value this week !
