Soccer betting heats up as European club seasons wind down, especially in the La Liga championship race, where a new leader sits atop the Spanish League soccer table. Real Madrid’s 1-0 triumph over struggling Espanyol, combined with Barcelona’s disappointing 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo, has vaulted the Madrilenos into the top spot entering another mid-week match day. Serie A betting is also out in full force this week, as Juventus look to stretch their slim lead over Lazio in Matchweek 29.
Here are our top predictions and plays on European soccer odds for June 30-July 2:
European Soccer Predictions for June 30-July 2
Torino vs. Lazio (Tuesday, 1:30 pm ET)
Genoa vs. Juventus (Tuesday, 3:45 pm ET)
This space is usually reserved for single-game plays – but it’s hard to ignore the intrigue of the parlay, with the top two teams in the Serie A standings both hitting the road Tuesday. Juve will venture to Genoa after shaking off a sluggish opening half to throttle 10-man Lecce 4-0. Second-place Lazio, meanwhile, will look to extend their winning ways at Torino after shading a shorthanded Fiorentina squad 2-1 at Stadio Olimpico last time out.
Juventus and Lazio have just six defeats between them through 28 matches, and they’re the only clubs in the league with 20+ victories to date. Torino have just one victory across all competitions since mid-January, while Genoa have been gouged for six goals in two games while earning a single point since returning from the COVID-19 hiatus. We see big wins in the away teams’ futures here and recommend the parlay bet for a nice payoff.
Pick: Lazio/Juventus parlay (+152)
Valencia vs. Athletic Bilbao (Wednesday, 1:30 pm ET)
Valencia and Athletic Bilbao are virtually even in the table but are headed in opposite directions as they do battle Wednesday at Mestalla Stadium. Host Valencia are one point ahead of ninth-place Bilbao but have dropped three of their past four games, failing to score in any of their three defeats over that span. Bilbao, on the other hand, have points in four of five games since the restart and probably deserve to be higher given their plus-eight goal differential.
Discipline has been a major problem for Valencia, who have picked up red cards in two of their last four games (and, not surprisingly, lost them both.) But a return home should invigorate the club, which prevailed 2-0 over Osasuna in its previous game at Mestalla Stadium and has earned four of six points in two home games since the break. We like this one to be low-scoring, but with Valencia getting back on track in an evenly-matched affair.
Pick: Valencia and Under 2.5 goals (+333)
Real Madrid v. Getafe (Thursday, 4 pm ET)
Knowing that a victory would propel them past rival Barca and into sole possession of top spot in the table, Real Madrid did just enough to succeed in a narrow win over Espanyol. And while they’re heavy -275 favorites for this week’s encounter with sixth-place Getafe, bettors should be wary of expecting a one-sided affair here; Madrid have scored just five goals in three games against far inferior foes, while Getafe have been one of the top defensive clubs since the restart.
Granted, this is by no means a competitive matchup; Getafe haven’t scored in their previous three meetings with Real Madrid, and the league leaders have scored 3+ goals in five of their last six home outings against Thursday’s opponent. But Getafe are playing inspired soccer at the moment, and it’s not unreasonable to expect Real Madrid to do just enough yet again to remain on top. We like this one to be a bit of a slog.
Pick: Under 2.5 goals (+100)
