Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds are on the board for the annual Fourth of July celebration to crown the most impressive eater in America. COVID-19 has changed many things across the country and this year's contest is no different with the event being forced behind closed doors. They've also reduced the total number of competitors from 30 to 10 (five men and five women) to better handle social distancing rules.

Thankfully, the event will still be held at Coney Island in New York and ESPN will once again be airing it at noon ET on July 4. If you want to start off your Fourth of July celebrations with Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Betting, we've got you covered with odds to win and total number of hot dogs eaten by the victor.

Who is the favorite to win the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest?

Joey Chestnut is the favorite to win this year's hot dog contest which isn't exactly a surprise. The 36-year-old is the most dominant champ in eating history having won an incredible 12 of the last 13 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contests.

He's been so dominant in fact that the Joey Chestnut Betting Odds have him against the entire field and are still heavily juiced towards him winning at -1,100. Oddsmakers have also given Chestnut a handicap of -15.5 hot dogs against the second-place finisher.

The Over/Under for the total number of hot dogs and buns eaten by the winner is set at 74.5. While the record is 74, set by Chestnut in 2018, the champ believes he can hit 77 this year with the benefit of indoor air conditioning.

In the women's division we have another massive favorite in Miki Sudo who is installed at -750 to win her seventh consecutive Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Sudo has been given a spread of -6.5 against Michelle Lesco who is viewed as her closest competition.

What are the rules for the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest?

This is no rinky-dink amateur event, all competitors must be under contract by Major League Eating for this contest which is officially sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating.

Contestants stand in front of a table lined with thousands of Nathan's Famous hot dogs in buns. The person who consumes the most hot dogs and buns in ten minutes is declared the winner. Partial dogs count and any food in mouth when the timer expires also count so long as the competitor finishes swallowing it.

Beverages can be used to help, and the dogs can be consumed with condiments or without. Chipmunking and dunking is allowed but any reversals (AKA obvious signs of vomiting) are an instant disqualification.

What is the prize structure for the 2020 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest?

While this might be the Super Bowl of competitive eating the total purse isn't quite the same. There is a total of $40,000 handed out equally across both the mens and women's sides. First place takes home 10K, second place 5K, third place $2,500, fourth place $1,500 and fifth place $1,000.

That's right, for finishing fifth in this contest, competitors get a measly $1,000 or approximately enough to afford an iPhone X. Clearly these guys and gals are doing it for love of the game.
