The PGA Tour and our golf betting fix rolls on as the Travelers Championship got off to a hot start. Players came out firing and posted some low scores, resulting in some familiar names at the top of the betting and leader boards.
Mackenzie Hughes had the round of the day, shooting an incredible 10-under 60. But it's Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, and Bryson DeChambeau who are tops when it comes to the betting odds board.
With the second round set to tee off at TPC River Highlands, we give our PGA golf picks, predictions and best bets for the Travelers Championship Round 2 odds.
Travelers Championship Round 2 picks and predictions
Marc Leishman over Max Homa & Adam Long Round 2 3-Ball +120
Leishman bounced back from missing the cut at his last PGA event, the Charles Schwab Challenge, by posting a solid four-under 66 Thursday. Before the shutdown, Leishman was having a fantastic season, with three Top 3’s, including a win at the Farmers Insurance Open. He is also second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approach, and he's the 2012 Travelers champion. He's finished in the Top 21 in four of the last six years at TPC River Highlands, and he is the class of this group by a decent margin — and there may be more bets on him moving forward.
Sergio Garcia Top-5 Finish +350
Sergio carried his hot play from the RBC Heritage over to Thursday’s opening round by shooting a six-under 64. That’s four consecutive rounds of 65 or lower for Garcia, and he’s been doing it by getting back to what has made him so great over the years: his ball striking. He was second in the field at Harbour Town in strokes gained: approach, he ranked eighth in the field in true strokes gained at TPC River Highlands heading into Thursday, and was second in Round 1 in strokes gained tee to green. Sergio is in a groove right now and he should continue to eat up this course.
Rory McIlroy to win +400
This is probably silly as, admittedly, +400 is terrible value on Rory. But this feels like one of the weekends where you might feel stupid for not taking him even at this number. McIlroy essentially lapped the field when it came to strokes gained tee-to-green in Round 1 and he scored a 7-under 63 while basically getting nothing from his putter. If Rory keeps rolling, no one is going to stop him here. Maybe the best advice here is to see if he gets off to a slow start tomorrow and live bet him to win the tournament at +700 or +800. But I’m going to jump on him now at this price.
