KBO Picks

ESPN Game of the Day: NC Dinos (31-14) vs Doosan Bears (28-18)

Probable Pitchers: Drew Rucinski (5-1, 2.67 ERA) vs Chris Flexen (3-1, 3.26 ERA)

Well, they did it again. This time the Doosan Bears were the ones to score late, putting up a nine-spot on the NC Dinos in the bottom of the eighth. That makes these teams five-for-five when it comes to putting up double-digit runs when they face off. But that number may be harder to come by in the rubber match of this three-game set on Sunday.

Drew Rucinski has logged a quality start in each of his last seven games. That includes allowing two runs on three hits against this Bears squad earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Chris Flexen has been the Bears strongest starter all season long and hasn’t given up more than three runs in any start this season, which includes allowing one run on four hits to the Bears back in May.

I can’t believe we’re doing this, but now is the time to fade this trend. At least early.

Pick: Under 4.5 First 5 Innings (-109)

Kia Tigers (24-20) vs Kiwoom Heroes (29-18)

Probable Pitchers: Aaron Brooks (3-2, 2.62 ERA) vs Won-tae Choi (3-3, 4.18 ERA)

Eric Jokisch dominated the Kia Tigers in a 2-0 win on Saturday. It was the Kiwoom Heroes ninth win in their last 10 games, and Sunday’s rubber match should be another pitcher’s duel.

Import starter Aaron Brooks has been one of the best pitchers in the KBO this season and has been dealing over his last three starts. Brooks owns a 1.53 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP over that stretch. He also held the Heroes to one run on five hits in his first start of the year.

Won-tae Choi gets the ball for the Heroes. Choi has posted a quality start in five of his last six appearances. And even with an ugly performance in there still has a 3.93 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP over that stretch.

With a pair of lineups that can be inconsistent, it’s hard not to think this game will also be low scoring early.

Pick: Under 4.5 First 5 Innings (-131)

Samsung Lions (24-23) vs Lotte Giants (21-23)

Probable Pitchers: Dae-woo Kim (2-2, 3.82 ERA) vs Se-woong Park (1-4, 6.08 ERA)

The Samsung Lions are going for the three-game sweep of our favorite Waffles, the Lotte Giants. The Giants bats have gone silent again, plating just 11 runs over their last four games and not supporting Sunday’s starter could be a problem.

Se-woong Park gets the ball for the Giants and the 24-year-old right hander has been in quite the slump. Park has a 6.82 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP over his last six starts. He faces a scrappy Lions lineup that is one of the best in the KBO at hitting with runners in scoring position.

Meanwhile, the Lions counter with Dae-woo Kim. The 31-year-old right hander has bounced back-and-forth between the Lions bullpen and rotation this season, but when he has started, he’s been solid. Kim has a 3.60 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP in five starts this season. The Lions present good value as a slight dog.

Pick: Samsung Lions (+106)

KBO Betting Record: 73-54-1, +13.92 units
