KBO Picks

ESPN Game of the Day: NC Dinos (31-13) vs Doosan Bears (27-18)

Probable Pitchers: Sung-young Choi (0-0, 6.75 ERA) vs Raul Alcantara (7-1, 3.70 ERA)

The Dinos struck first in this series of two of the KBO’s top teams, putting up seven runs after the seventh inning in an eventual 9-3 win over the Bears.

That makes it four-for-four putting up double-digit runs when these two powerhouses meet this season. They are now averaging 13.5 runs per game, and more could be in store Saturday.

Alcantara gets the ball for the Bears, and he has been excellent this season, recording a quality start in seven of his nine appearances. That includes limiting the Dinos to one run on six hits earlier this month. On top of that, he gets plenty of run support, seeing an average of 6.9 runs in his starts, and he should get more of that in this one.

The Dinos hand the ball to Sung-young Choi, who is making just his third start of the season and his first two have not gone smoothly, including four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings against the Bears on June 9.

The Dinos should be able to do enough here, so there’s no reason to fade this total trend now.

Pick: Over 10 (-115)

Kia Tigers (24-19) vs Kiwoom Heroes (28-18)

Probable Pitchers: Hyun-jong Yang (5-3, 4.88 ERA) vs Eric Jokisch (6-2, 1.63 ERA)

The Heroes' eight-game winning streak came to an end yesterday at the hands of the Tigers, but they’ll try to start a new one as they hand the ball to one of the best starters in the KBO for Game 2.

Yup, Eric Jokisch will be on the bump tonight and he has had dominant stuff so far this season. The lefty has been close to unhittable with his 0.94 WHIP to go along with that impressive ERA.

Despite the 8-6 win, the Tigers generally haven’t been as good of a hitting team at home (4.0 runs per game on the road compared to 6.3 at home) and have struggled against lefties.

Oddly enough, the Heroes have lost two of Jokisch’s last three starts, despite giving up a total of just four earned runs in those games. So the best value is on the Heroes to have the lead halfway through the game.

Pick: Kiwoom Heroes -0.5 First 5 Innings (-112)

LG Twins (25-20) vs SK Wyverns (14-31)

Probable Pitchers: Chan-heon Jung (3-1, 3.34 ERA) vs Ricardo Pinto (3-3, 4.26 ERA)

Injuries continue to take a toll on the Twins. Friday’s 7-0 loss to the Wyverns was their seventh in a row, while plating just 3.3 runs per contest in that span.

They are still without three regulars in the starting lineup and will turn to Chan-heon Jung to make another spot start on Saturday. Mind you, Jung has been pretty good in his last three starts, but it’s unlikely he gets the support he needs here.

Ricardo Pinto starts for the Wyverns, and while his quality start streak of five straight games came to an end last time out, he’s certainly in a position to bounce back against an injury-riddled Twins squad.

Maybe even more importantly, the Wyverns are at home where they are a better hitting team and have averaged 6.3 runs per game in their last three games overall.

Until the Twins heal up, they are an excellent team to fade right now.

Pick: SK Wyverns (+110)

KBO Betting Record: 71-53-1, +13.16 units
