KBO Picks

ESPN Game of the Day: Doosan Bears (28-20) vs Kiwoom Heroes (31-18)

Probable Pitchers: Young-ha Lee (1-4, 6.29 ERA) vs Hyun-hee Han (3-2, 4.38 ERA)

The Kiwoom Heroes stayed hot, by thumping the Doosan Bears 11-2 yesterday. It was the Heroes' 11th win in their last 12 ball games and now they sit just two games behind the first place NC Dinos.

The Heroes will be primed to keep rolling as they go up against slumping Bears starter Young-ha Lee. The 22-year-old right-hander has an 11.05 ERA with a 2.39 WHIP over his last three starts. He’ll then hand the ball to a bullpen that has a 5.60 ERA (seventh in the KBO).

That probably doesn’t bode well against a team that is averaging 5.5 runs per game over this 12-game stretch. There’s nice value in the Heroes to fly past their team total in this one.

Pick: Kiwoom Heroes Team Total Over 5.5 (+114)

Hanwha Eagles (12-36) vs Kia Tigers (24-21)

Probable Pitchers: Shi-hwan Jang (1-4, 6.21 ERA) vs Ki-young Im (4-3, 2.91 ERA)

As my guy @Covers_Ro pointed out yesterday, the Hanwha Eagles are 5-9 in their last 14 games and that means they’re on fire by their standards. But Tuesday’s rainout against the Kia Tigers didn’t do them any favors with the pitching matchup, as it’s still Shi-hwan Jang vs Ki-young Im.

Jang has posted back-to-back solid outings but still had a 1.60 WHIP in those games, while his WHIP for the season is an unsightly 2.07. He goes up against a Tigers lineup that is much stronger at home and got to Jang for four runs on seven hits back in mid-May.

Meanwhile, Ki-young Im has been one of the Tigers' best starters all year, owning an impressive 1.15 WHIP to go along with his 2.91 ERA and is dealing right now. Im has a 1.65 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP over his last three starts.

We’re riding this pick again today, as the Tigers are in a nice spot to bounce back.

Pick: Kia Tigers -1.5 (-132)

SK Wyverns (14-34) vs Samsung Lions (25-24)

Probable Pitchers: Seung-won Moon (2-3, 3.23 ERA) vs David Buchanan (5-3, 4.53 ERA)

The opener of this SK Wyverns-Samsung Lions series was a pitcher’s duel, culminating in a 4-1 Lions victory, and Game 2 could see more of the same.

While the Wyverns have struggled in many areas this season, their starting pitching hasn’t been one of them. And Wednesday they send one of their best to the bump in Seung-won Moon.

The 30-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 1.39 ERA with a 0.80 WHIP over his last five starts. And that includes games against the Dinos, Bears, Heroes and this same Lions squad.

The Lions counter with David Buchanan. While the import starter is inexplicably coming off his worst start of the year against the Eagles, he had been rolling before that, allowing two earned runs or fewer in five straight starts, which includes six innings of four-hit shutout ball against the Wyverns.

With two erratic offenses, pitching will dominate early once again.

Pick: Under 5.0 First 5 Innings (-116)

KBO Betting Record: 76-56-1, +14.46 units
