The Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest is the most prestigious football handicapping competition in the sports betting industry and Covers' own Las Vegas-based senior writer, Patrick Everson, is throwing his hat in the ring for the 2018 NFL season.
We're back again, going head-to-head with more than 3,100 football bettors from around the country. But this year, our own Las Vegas-based senior writer, Patrick Everson, will be entering his own five best NFL picks each week, in hopes of winning the Grand Prize, which stands to exceed $1.4 million. Follow Patrick and the COVERS.COM entry, as he goes up against a field that ranges from casual football fans to Las Vegas’ most renowned wiseguys.
Patrick's Weekly SuperContest Blog:
It’s settled. After a dismal second half of the season, I can no longer reach .500 in this year’s SuperContest. How pathetic. Last week’s 1-4 record sealed my fate, as I’m now 35-41-4 on the year, for 37 out of a possible 80 points.
I could go 5-0 in Week 17 and still would fall just short of .500. And the chances of me posting a perfect record this week are about the same as me getting struck by lightning while celebrating a hole in one!
So, I’m sitting around 2,400th out of 3,100 plus entrants. Let’s try to make a splash in the final week. Here are the picks:
Cowboys +6.5 at Giants: New York has been killing me all season, whenever I’ve picked that squad. So I’ll go against the Giants instead, and probably get killed again. But WTH at this point, right?
Eagles -6.5 at Redskins: Philadelphia absolutely, positively has to win this game to get into the playoffs. If that’s not enough incentive for the defending Super Bowl champ, I don’t know what is. I’ll lay the 6.5 with the Eagles.
Texans -6.5 vs. Jaguars: Houston actually has a very small shot at a first-round playoff bye, so there’s a something to play for here. Furthermore, Indianapolis or Tennessee could steal the division from the Texans, if they’re not careful. I’ll take the nearly touchdown home favorite.
Colts -3 at Titans: Winner goes to the playoffs, loser goes home. Personally, I want the Captain Andrew Luck Twitter feed – go check it out, @CaptAndrewLuck – to continue going strong in the postseason. At this point, with my record, that’s as good a reason as any to be on Indianapolis as a road chalk in this winner-take-all game.
Bears +4.5 at Vikings: The Bears still have an outside shot at a first-round playoff bye, and Matt Nagy says his top horses are going to play. I’ll take the points with the Bears.
It’s been an entertaining season in the SuperContest. Here’s hoping you all faded the daylights out of me throughout the second half of the season, and if you did, then congrats on boosting your bankroll. Happy New Year!
