Blue Bombers vs Roughriders Week 13 Picks and Predictions: Winnipeg Still Has Saskatchewan's Number

No team has Saskatchewan's number like Winnipeg. The Blue Bombers are 7-2 SU and ATS in their last nine meetings including a streak of five straight wins with covers in four of them. Back that streak to continue this weekend — as our CFL picks explain.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers head to Mosaic Stadium to take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 13 of CFL action this Sunday.

This is the first time these West Division foes have clashed this year but they'll face off three times this month starting with Labour Day Weekend. The Bombers have owned this rivalry in recent years and oddsmakers expect them to prevail again with CFL betting lines opening with the Riders as 3.5-point home pups.

Here are our best free Blue Bombers vs. Roughriders picks and predictions for September 4.

Blue Bombers vs Roughriders picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Spread analysis

With his back against the wall, Cody Fajardo came through with his best performance of the year vs. the Lions last week completing 19 of 24 passes for 321 yards while adding another 38 yards on the ground.

Fajardo gets some good news with the return of deep threat Shaq Evans but Duke Williams is again listed as questionable and he faces a Bombers defense that has been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.

Keep in mind that the reason fans were calling for Fajardo's head before last week was his lackluster play throughout the year and now he'll be going up against the team that shut him down twice during the regular season in 2021.

A big reason for the quarterback's struggles has been the terrible play of Saskatchewan's offensive line and that weakness will be exposed by a fearsome Blue Bombers front.

The two-time defending champion Blue Bombers are 10-1 and are almost odds-on favourites to repeat as champs with a current futures price of +115.

They are coming off a 31-29 win against the Stampeders where they rolled up 475 yards of offense and although they allowed 409, they are typically much better on the defensive side of the ball. They allow a league-low 19.2 points per game and rank second in the league in yards allowed per pass attempt (7.9) and opponent pass efficiency rating (86.2).

The Roughriders have a stout stop-unit that generates a ton of pressure but it won't be easy to slow down Winnipeg's attack.

Zach Collaros is the reigning Most Outstanding Player and is second in the league in efficiency rating (106.4) and yards per pass attempt (9.0). He does an excellent job of spreading the ball and running back Brady Oliveira has overcome a slow start to the season by rumbling for 346 yards on 6.3 yards per rush over the last four games.

The Bombers are too balanced on offense and defense and their advantage in the trenches and at QB should lead to a cover.

Prediction: Blue Bombers -3.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

Over/Under analysis

At 44.5, this is easily the lowest total of the week and while both of these defenses are very good, this number might be a tad too low.

With the exception of a let-down performance against the Als in Week 10, the Bombers have been lighting up the scoreboard recently and have averaged 30.1 ppg since Week 5. With BC's Nathan Rourke sidelined by an injury, Collaros is once again the best passer in the league while Oliveira is now the leading rusher.

Saskatchewan is also coming off its best offensive performance of the year after totaling 485 yards against a Lions defense that has been very good this year. The Riders won't have quite as much offensive success in this one but if head coach Craig Dickinson continues to open up his playbook, they should be able to push this game Over the total.

Prediction: Over 44.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

Best bet

Betting trends can be misleading at times but with how often these rivals face off against each other and how similar their lineups have been over the last few seasons, recent meetings are a relevant source of information.

The Bombers are 7-2 straight up and ATS in the last nine games in the head-to-head. They also won all three meetings last year, dominating the Riders twice during the regular season before edging them 21-17 in the playoffs.

Mosaic Stadium is a very tough venue to play in but the Bombers tend to travel well to Regina and this is a relatively short line for the Grey Cup favorites to cover.

Although the Riders are coming off a much-needed win, they did it against a team that had just been gut-punched by losing its superstar quarterback (and likely the best player in the league in Rourke). They won't find it anywhere near as easy to get the job done against Winnipeg and Collaros.
