thats really what christians believe, that you just rise skyward no matter where you are or if you are dead???

i always find it funny that a book like l ron hubbards is dismissed as lunacy but the bible is so revered

Now let me ask you a question.  If there are millions of other planets, and many of them have intelligent life on them, wouldnt you also say that many of them are a lot and i mean a LOT smarter than us?

This just lead me to believe we are a VERY weak planet.  Weak is not good.

Im not trying to get into religous details bu God doesnt like weak people.  Hence why many think its the end of times.  God just may be fed up........just a thought

there are 600 billion stars in the universe, so there are probably trillions of planets.  yes, statistically speaking there is probably intelligent life on another planet somewhere.

fwiw, if god spent 1 second creating each star thats almost 7000 days, nevermind the time to create planets and moons

i followed the link in the article to another site that was supposed to detail the lawsuit, but it was pretty generic.  i would have to think that if her kids are now compulsive gamblers and the only 'gambling' theyve done before was at chuck e cheese and the mother was unaware of the 'gambling' games and chuck e cheese actually offers games of luck and not skill, thats the only way, however small, she would have a case.  but i dont think someone just goes from 0->compulsive gambler overnight, which would mean the mother ignored signs and continued to take her kids to this place that she thinks is evil.

i would bet (pun intended) the mother is mad bc her kids want to go there to win more tickets so they can spend $50 on games to win a $10 toy.  and she just assumes (or her lawyer is telling her) that since you can win tickets, its gambling, even though everyone would agree games like skee ball is a game of skill.

earlier, someone mentioned a roulette type wheel with a light, if i remember correctly, at least the game im thinking of, is definitely a game of skill bc you choose when to stop the light and the light makes another revolution just for show, kinda the same way a slot machine is determined when you push the button but continues for show.

the us doesnt need to go as far as having a loser pays system (if you file a lawsuit and lose you pay the other sides legal fees), but there has to be a higher hurdle to clear, maybe something like you need to pay 1% of what you are suing for in filing fees.  but you have to remember the politics of it.  most politicians are lawyers, and the trial lawyers assn is a HUGE donor to democrats

i was about 7 or 8 being the bat boy at my step dads baseball game, i wasnt paying attention and took a foul ball right in the face.  i didnt know i got knocked out till later someone said i flipped backwards off my stool, i just remember being hit and then being on the ground.

to captain credit.... i had a friend in college who was getting head from a girl at a party and in walked her bf, my friend, still with his pants around his ankles, knocked out the bf.  i told him he shoulda splooged on the bf....

thats actually a good point, one ive never heard before

i will say unless the women had knowledge of 1) the actual temp of the coffee and 2) the temp and duration at which burns are caused, that she would still have a case.  i think theres a difference between knowing a non boiling liquid is hot and knowing that its hot enough to cause you to get burned so badly you need skin grafts.

as i said before, i do think we are too sue happy.  my window screens have a warning on them saying they wont hold your baby from falling out of the window.  which means someone actually thought they would and a baby fell out a window and they sued, or they put the warnings on their bc they were afraid someone would be so stupid to think it would hold a baby and sue.

I do think they should have been more clear with warning about how hot the coffee is, though it probably will not stop us from spilling coffee on ourselfes.Personally i like my coffee hot , that way it last longer.

mcds was heating the coffee to 180 degrees and they had already settled numerous cases of ppl being burned.  a quick google search says 140 degree water will cause 3rd degree burns after a few seconds.

im a big tort reform guy, but this lady absolutely deserved to win.  and so does anyone else who suffered the same trauma she did from something that should be pretty mundane.  i mean she needed to get skin grafts, its not like she just got a blister.

the jury probably awarded her more bc shes a sympathetic victim, and if you have a problem with that here, you must absolutely hate john edwards with every fiber of your body, but also bc mcds told her to go pound sand.

looking at the wikipedia page, it says the judge reduced the verdict to 600k.  id hardly call that excessive.

im still amazed everytime someone says something like this about this case

lets recap, mcds was using a cheap coffee bean, in order to make the aroma better, they heated it way beyond normal, apparently even shitty beans smell good at high temps.

the grandma spilled the coffee on herself and received THIRD DEGREE BURNS, on her vagina no less.  she initially only asked mcds for money to cover he medical bills, mcds told her to go f herself, she sued and won.  the amount the jury awarded was the daily sales of coffee for mcds world or nationwide.  the whole point of awarding a judgment is to make it punitive enough for the perpetrator to not do it again.

so i guess if you ever get THIRD DEGREE burns from something that should otherwise be safe, you arent going to sue???   please.  you make it seem like she sued bc her shirt got stained when she spilled the coffee and sued for millions.

its funny with all the responses thinking its a scam.  a few years ago in NH (or maybe vermont) a woman who was lost wonders onto a guys property, still ~40 yds from his house, the guy comes to his porch with a gun and says get the f off my property.  he ends up being convicted for something like intimidation.  part of the prosecutions case was, she was a harmless woman.

i was playing at a 6 deck table a few months ago, i hit with 12 vs a dealer 2.  some lady at the table freaked out, you would have thought i just shot her dog.  i told the lady first off, this is a $5 table, if you are so great at BJ, why arent you playing higher limits.  i also mention that she can go to the gift shop and buy a BJ strategy card and it will tell you to hit with 12 or 13 vs a dealer 2.  she said those cards are lies and a scam to get ppl to lose more money to the casino.

i learned a long time ago to not be amazed at how dumb some ppl can be

ive seen several ppl on various forums talk about slipping the front desk person a $20 behind your id and getting a free room upgrade.  ive never dont this before and was wondering what type of upgrades are normal.  i already have a suite at the mgm booked, would they upgrade me to a bigger suite? or does the $20 'only' work for ppl who book a basic room.

thanks

you dont understand 2 concepts.

1) his projects/businesses are independent entities

2) sometimes its good to have debt.  my bro-in-laws boss (a big time lawyer) just bought a big beach house, his accountant told him to only pay ~80% of it, instead of 100% of it cash, bc of the tax breaks he would get.

sorry, i was boxed for pointing out a moderators hypocrisy,  apparently they are above  questioning here....  and i didnt want to make you think i was running away from the thread

you fail to understand a few simple concepts.  1) you dont drink straight rain water (at least my the civilized ppl i know) 2) the half life in question is 8 days 3) rain water is diffused in the water supply

and if you bothered to actually read the whole article you provided, you would have read at the end

“It’s absolutely no public health risk,” California Department of Public Health spokesman Mike Sicilia said.

but its obvious you have already made your mind up without any science and when you see something that you think proves your false assertion and you cant contain yourself.

as for michaelpaul, im fully aware shit is hitting the fan OVER THERE, but to say theres something to worry about IN AMERICA, is just unfounded.

and as ive alluded to before in this thread, ive actually taken a few nuclear engineering college classes, im no sheep.  whats your nuclear education background?  methinks you just called the kettle black.

did you ever think that straight, may mean the opposite of crooked, in this instance?  as in, that deal was straight, or that dude is straight.  we used to say thats straight years ago, and it had nothing do with sexuality and everything to do with being on the up and up.

while it doesnt automatically mean he hates gays, it sure as hell means he doesnt respect them and is very ignorant,

UConn Star Kemba Walker Has Read ONE Book In His Entire Life

Tim Layden's cover story in this week's Sports Illustrated, about UConn's National Championship last Monday revealed this interesting nugget about the star of the tournament, junior guard Kemba Walker.

(Pointed out by @SIPabloTorre in case you missed it:)

"And in his travel pack is a copy of New York Times columnist William C. Rhoden's Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Black Athlete, a book that Crump encouraged Walker to read as part of an independent study class on racism in sports. Before the Final Four, Crump suggested that Rhoden's book would be the first that Walker had ever made it through cover-to-cover. After the win over Kentucky, Walker confirmed this. "That's true," he said. "You can write that. It is the first book I've ever read."

The anecdote was told as part of a story about Walker's commitment to graduate early from Connecticut (which he is on schedule to do.) It's a remarkable achievement and one we don't mean to disparage, but ....

How does anyone graduate from a  Division I university — in three years, no less! — without ever finishing a single book in his life?

i went from maybe sophomore year of HS till age 27 without reading a book, and going to college.  whoever cliff is, he wrote some damn good notes.

i remember sending a text out to some friends, guess where i just came from..... the library.

also, chris rock, circa 2000, had a bit in his standup, "hide the money in the books.  N*****s dont read, books is like kryptonite to thieves"
