0-2 last night on disappointing plays on Georgia Tech & Long Beach.
It's gambling, not winning. My pick for today: Valparaiso +16 @
Purdue This will by far be the most interesting game for me to
watch tomorrow night. I look forward to seeing Rik Smits’ son match up with
Haas. Purdue is coming off four straight marquee games against Arizona,
Louisville, Maryland and Northwestern – so it will be interesting to see how
they respond to a mid-major non-conference matchup against a very respectable
Valparaiso team. Valpo has not played since November 28th, so they
have had plenty of time to look forward to this game. While Valpo has not
played any significant teams, it is worth noting they hold opponents to 25%
shooting beyond the arc. Purdue is very dependent on the 3 ball (frequently attempting
in the mid 20s in games). While Purdue very well could run away with this game,
I think it there is good value and this line and it will be a great game to
watch. Valpo could hang around if they are able to knock down some shots and
play good defense. |

UT Arlington has much more size (and get a large portion of their scoring from their big men). UNI has a quick point guard that will match up well with Neal. I've only watched UT play against Bama, and the UNLV/Northern Iowa game. I anticipate the public to continue backing UT, so the line may move even more. UT plays a very quick tempo game, while UNI plays at one of the slowest tempos in the country. If the game is slow, it could be a low scoring affair and favor getting points from the dog. The half court game would seem to favor the big men of UT, so I think there's good value there.

Thank you. Another close pick for me would be the Vanderbilt game. It has all the peripherals for a good value bet, but I dislike Vandy's ability to consistently make shots.

Georgia Tech -3.5 @ Wofford
Georgia Tech is coming off of two straight losses, one to Grambling (ouch), and the other to a very respectable Tennessee team. KenPom has GT 28th overall in adjusted defense, whereas Wofford ranks 300th. My biggest fear is a slow pace of play that limits possessions, but I'll take my chances on a tight line with a distinct difference in talent levels. Long Beach St. -2.5 @ Southern Utah Yes, Southern Utah is undefeated against the spread. This will be the third game this year that they are not a 20+ point dog. The other two games were against San Jose St and Pepperdine, and LBSU has much more talent than either of those teams. Long Beach has played the 7th most difficult schedule in the NCAA, and I think some of their box scores are misleading. This will be a quick tempo game, and LBSU has superior athleticism to this Southern Utah squad.
