Basically you have 2 strategies. 1.) Mitigation - simply put: this is based on the isolation of older people and hoping for collective herd immunity made by younger who overcame it without substantial problems. It is very risky approach, beacuse the peak of epidemy will challenge public health system beyond belief - and you have detrimental collateral damages (endangered lifes of medical stuff, increased mortality on other diseases etc.). 2) Complete lockdown - it will somehow flatten the curve, this is the scenario applied in my country and in almost all Euroepan countries. Complete lockdown means absolutely NO social life. If this will laste ony 2-3 months, we would be able to go through it..but: the weakness of this approach is that if you release the quarantene (which is quite heavy in my country), the viscious circle might start again... Difficult dilemmas...(for some of the hot heads here: please be considerate and spare the bitching on my adress that I am totally stupid and you have invented in US another different magical approach which we in Europe are not able to manage...). A lot of toughness will be requested from everybody. Only the new vaccine will break this deadlock. |

To fishmac: you are simplifyiing things too much. Every case is different, every imunnity system is different and every infection case is different: if you are exposed to smaller portion of virus lets say in some public place or elevator, you have better chances having mild/moderate proceedings of disease. But if you are confronted with maximal dose of virus (like the young healthy doctors in Wuhan) you are in extreme danger, no matter that you are healthy 30something young adult...All European countries (mine included) opted for supression/quarantene method (lockdown of whole country), none of them dared to go in mitigation method (lets isolate only the old ones, the young ones will beat it with strong imunnity) direction..maybe US will be the first...Dont forget that during the massive overload of hospitals with corona virus patients, the mortality rates of other diagnosis (cardiacs, diabethes, heart strokes) might be sky rockeeting...Plus heavy casualties among medical stuff. Maybe the only advantage of some US areas is low density..in the midwest, Alaska etc...Who knows. |

Voice from Europe here. Prognosis ouf our Public health authorities indicate that in the case of strict quarantene and all the borders shut down etc., my country might peak in July with 10-20% infected. This is considered lucky scenario, we are very small country. Economy in August will be in desolate situation, of course. Larger countries will have it even more difficult, and even UK is leaning more and more toward continental approch (strict quarantenes). |

Voice from Europe here. Fellas, I cant believe my eyes when I am reading some of the previous posts here ("its media hype", "there is only marginal chance to catch it..or similar absurdities)..Situation is very very seriuos (though not desperate) here, my country is completely locked (which I appreciate), absolutely NO social life, everybody has home office. Italy is struggling beyond belief. You have to take into consideration, that this desease might challenge public health system beyond any thinkable scope..The only way to go is to fight it together with patience, endurance and discipline. All the best buddies, we will eventually beat it wordwide and come back to our beloved NBA in October. |

shutting down the 2020 NBA season is the best decision. I am from Europe and all the sport life is paralysed here...Italy is struggling beyond belief and there are more important things than basketball. |

agree. Everybody is expecting that they will respond after humiliating loss in Charlotte and trash the Orlando. I expect another disinterested comedy from Rockets. |

Portland is the biggest disapointment of the NBA 2019/20 season. Team with no gameplan, no chemistry and no attitude...They play like "ok, basketball is healthy for human organism, lets play some games and the outcome does not matter...". seldom seen more obnoxious team mentality than this one... |

Unfortunately Blazers is becoming the blueprint of garbage team...no game plan, no motivation, no strategy, no cleverness...only entertainment... |

It should be one-sided matter...the only danger is that Houston might underestimate Atlanta, but this early in the season it is not likely...

agree with you. High scoring Houston should not have problems with Atlanta messy team...
