Give me a Roy, Hassek or Broduer in his prime anyday. Are the salaries crazy? Yeah they are but a sloid netminder wins games over the long haul and more importantly in the clutch. Whilke there may be no "superstars" in net like in the past, there are plenty of goalies that are worth their pay. On the flip side their are some who are not. You can make that arguement for any player on the team, hell for that matter you can make it for any player on any team in any sport. A players value is determined by his skill set, or his perceived skill set by those with the cash. I wouldn't pay Luango that much money, but I don't own the Nucks. I certainly wouldn't invest 100mil in Illya and neglect the rest of my teams needs either, but I'm not the Devils. My point is it's subjective and is for every major sport out there.

Brodeur may have lost some skill, but he's the only reason they are even in games right now. As NJ said the D is AWFUL. I've watched them play most of their games and more often than not it looks as if the opposing team is on the PP at even strength. Marty is playing his ass off and the D most times is watching him do it. IMO the team went out and grabbed a big name without regard to chemistry or any blueliners to back said superstar(who btw wouldn't know D if it came up and bit him in the ass). I for one am fading them this season until(if ever) they actually start showing any sign of life on the back end. It's not going to get any easier as the season moves on, if anything by about 20 games you're going to know what you have.

I like the unders today myself 165. The only over I like is TB. Then again I've been taking a beating every which way so far this season so what the hell do I know? It's times like these when it's inportant to remember there is a shitload of hockey to be played yet.

Well Lipps I went against my gut and took the Oils,Canes and Habs. I just wish I would have pulled the trigger on the Flyers, instead I went with the Pens.
Good luck with those Devils, I'm fading that team until they prove me wrong.

Marty had the benefit of having a D in front of him that meshed with his skill set(high imo) now that the D is nonexistant he can't carry the team as he has in the past when the D failed. He's lost some of his game. I would contend that on a lot of those Devils teams you could have had an average goaltender with the close to the same result as Brodeur.

Well as I've said early, this team is lagging behind everyone else so far this season. You can see most of the other teams working out the kinks. The Devils just don't have what it takes to work them out. Marty benefitted from solid D and his own solid play. Now he's showing he's been riden into the ground and there's no D whatsever in front of him it's showing. The Devs faithful are still keeping there heads in the sand though.

Eh Mr. Z you know full well it's a marathon not a sprint and I know you will bounce back. Had I been laying actual cash on what I've picked so far, I'd be living in a cardboard box it's been so bad early. Glad I wait a few weeks in as SOP. Now that things are settling down it's going to get easier as you know. BOL tonight, EC |

I think it runs this week Lipps and maybe the following one, after that I think the dog train leaves the station.

With Niemi in between the pipes the sharks over is always the rule not the exception and more times than not they are the team to fade for a side. He's making a pretty good run at being the wost goalie in the league but he does have some stiff competition around.

Well that does tend to make some sense Rink. If Lamoriello didn't want the deal then it's bad news for Devils fans indeed. Giving your team cancer at the begining of a season is a sure way to sign it's death warrant. I think the Kovie deal was ridiculous from the start, but it's not my team or my money. Just goes to show what happens when owners start thinking they can run a team. The same issue happened early with Ted Leonsis in DC. Wanted to bring in "marquee players" instead of building from the ground up. Thank God that McPhee kept his job and Teddy saw the light or this would be the same Caps team that I have suffered through for decades.

Well hopefully they do get it worked out, but egos will kill a team as I'm sure we can agree. They sure can't count on Marty to carry this team like always. The D they are playing at this point is painful to watch. The Rags will eat them alive if they play that way today and they don't even have a full line up yet. EC |

I like the Preds and the over in this one, even though TB is playing solid hockey right now. BOL though Freak. EC |

I can somewhat agree that 7 is way too ealry, but looking at them in general I just get the feeling that they are in for a long season. The top teams are looking less sharp but you can see that they are pulling it together more and more each game. Same goes for the less sharp, they seem to be falling into old habits. EC |

Yeah it's early, but by the time they find the're stride the problem will be that every other team found theirs too.. They are just showing too many signs early of disarray for my liking.

Skub, It seems very few are in the black right now. The only reason I'm not in the hole is I have not opened up the bankroll yet. Using the Covers contest though has been pretty brutal to say the least. Dogs are barking early at such an alarming rate it seems to be F'ing with a lot of peoples heads. The important thing to remeber is that the season IS only a month old and plenty of hockey left to get on the plus side of this thing. I enjoy your posts and KNOW you will dig out, just like the other solid cappers here. The truly disturbing thing is the negative on this forum of late. I come here to enjoy the season and get good info, not to see jackasses post nonsense in threads. Hopefully as the season gets in full swing less of that will appear.

It's still early, but I'm leaning towards your recent fade the Devils post. This team is a mess and Brodour isn't going to be able to carry them this season. With Marty not being able to carry the team on his back, and Hedberg taking rotation in goal I can't see the Devils going anywhere fast. Kov was a healthy scratch? Sorry but if he's healthy he should be on the ice period because this team needs all the help it can get. They can't suit up against the Habs every night.

Excellent points 165. At the rate the dogs have been barking, it's bank at this point. The trick is going to be steping off this train when the correction hits. Rangers,Isles and Ducks are some good bets for tonight.

Well I for one will miss JP, but can understand. I myself have not bet any "real" money yet. I just like to get more into the season before I open up the bankroll. We all have ups and downs and we all deal with it differently. I can respect that totally and wish JP nothing but the best. IMO he is a solid capper and when he's ready he will be back. In the meantime his presence will be greatly missed by myself and others I have no doubt. Thanks for letting us know Mr. Z and PB whatever you decide I for one will support you as well.

Scube the card looks solid so far. TB is on fire and scoring in bunches and I see that continuing tonight. The Isles are problably good for 2 min. A depleted Rags team isn't enough for a hot Leafs team that's putting it in the net. The Rags don't have enough firepower with all the scratches due to injury. I was a little leary of the Dal/Fla under myself, but with the way Vok has been I think it will hold up tonight. You might want to take a look at the Wash/Bstn under. The B's defense against was is right now a Caps offense that hasn't figured it out yet.
BOL tonight, EC |
