Illini lost starting safety suppo sani to a torn achilles and just today lost starting db terry hawthorne. D backfield is gonna have a lot of young guys or guys coming off of injury from last season. As an Illini fan,

Just a few things on the Mizz/Illini game.... Illinois has two defensive starters out.... Safety Suppo Sani and injured today was DB Terry Hawthorne. It looks like we're going to be plugging young guys in or guys coming off of injury. Not the best way to open the season. For Mizzou, starting RB Derrick Washington is likely going to be out withsome sort of sexual assault charge. Watch for this in the coming days if it hasn't been announced alredy. Also, I think Mizzou is going to be w/out LB Will Ebner. He was a significant contributor last year and was (I think, not a mizzou expert) expected to start this year. Good luck with the card. |

Thanks for the good write ups on the QPR and Blackpool matches. Being a casual fan, I wouldn't ahve played these games, but I saw your post and made a small play. Very good and many thanks. It was easy to see you know your stuff. I look forward to your thoughts in the future. |

Illini season ticket holder here and took in two road games, I'll fill you in. There are many problems, Im not even sure where to start. The offense has a new coordinator, Mike Schultz. He was at TCU last year and they had one of the best offenses in the country. Many believe, including myself, that he is handcuffed. He wasn't allowed to install is own offense. He has to run Zook's offense, only adding a wrinkle here and there. Our offense is consistently inept. It's not as if Schultz forgot how to call a game once he got off the airplane in Champaign. We try to play a ball control style of offense, where the run sets up the pass. We primarily use three backs, none of whom have had much success running the ball this year. It is starting to look like our best back is #5, Mikel LeShoure, who is a sophomore. Staying with the ball contol theme, we don't take many chances down field. We rely on a lot of timing routes across the middle, which is not the strong suit of our QB. His strength is his mobility and ability to throw the deep ball. Most importantly, dont be fooled looking at our offensive stats. Most of our scoring has came in garbage time when the game has already been decided. We have only scored one meaningful td this year, and it came just last week at IU. Our defense isn't very good either, but some of the problem is they are on the field too much because of the floundering offense. We play pretty well against the run early in the game, but again they are on the field so much, it doesnt take too long to get worn down. In general, we are young on d and some younger players that didnt start early in the season are starting to get some more time. Obviously, cap the game yourself but I'd be glad to answer any other questions. GL this weekend.

Have not watched them but just looking at scores I guess I am looking for some insights. I know it seems so public but I am taking Purdue hard. I have only been betting last 3 weeks and am 14-9 on the year. GL all and I appreciate any insights or thoughts. |

Illinois fan here. I believe it was the 2006 season. The game was in East Lansing. Only reason I remember it is because it was one of Zook's earliest wins in the Big10. IIRC, it was the beginning of John L's tailspin. |

I've read that some teams don't like these Copa and Carling games. Why is that?
What about FA Cup? Do teams rest their regulars in games?

Pimp - What do you think of Wisconsin (-2.5) @ Iowa? Iowa is pretty lousy and Wisky is coming off a loss at home to Minny. Wisky (as do all other B10 teams) needs to win against bottom tier teams if they want to stay near the top of the conference. Too much to lose for Wisky, IMO.

This is going to be a great game tomorrow. But i strongly think ILL took a lot out of themselves against PU and should be looking ahead to there rival game with IU. ILLINI should come out slow for this game and i think MICH will bounce back nicely to pick up a solid conf. game win after being dismantled by a very good WISC team. MICH FT's and depth should be just enough for them to pull aways late... Bird, I agree Illinois may have a bit of a letdown after the good PU win and I took UM to win, but you really think Illinois SHOULD be looking ahead to the IU game???? C'mon man, UI could pick 5 guys outta the orange krush and it would be a pickem game. |

P - thanks for all the great insight. My new year's resolution is going to trust your picks more and mine less!
Your pick is Villa win - is that a ML win or laying the half point?

Great win last night for our Illini We own Mizzou in this series, 9 in a row. I couldnt believe we were getting 3.5.
There are a few difference between last year and this year - we make our free throws, we "lost" two players that whose skillsets were not well suited for a motion offense, and the team plays as a team this year - great chemistry.

Air -
What is your record on these pipe plays? I seem to remember you were killing it - around 70% at one point. Is that still close?
Good luck tonight.

Seems like VT should be a heavy favorite, despite the game being on the road when you consider how bad UGA is. Is there something I'm missing as to why the line is only VT -3? Thanks, and GL on your picks. |
