Big East tournament Quarterfinals odds, predictions and NCAA basketball best bets

We're getting into the second round of the Big East Tournament, with four games set to tip off at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. We bring you the must-read betting notes so you can beat the books in the conference tourney.

Providence Friars vs Villanova Wildcats

Odds:  Villanova -6, 130.5 at BetAmerica
Start Time: 12:00 p.m ET, Madison Square Garden, New York
Season Series: 2-0 (Villanova), 2-0 ATS (Villanova), 1-1 O/U

Villanova defeated the Friars 66-59 in Providence before clobbering them 85-67 at home. The Friars are coming off an impressive 21-point win last night versus Butler but they have had a difficult time following up on wins all season long. They are 2-6 ATS following straight up wins, and just 1-7 ATS in the games after an ATS victory.

'Nova stumbled into this tourney losing five of their last eight games, but they are simply too talented and experienced to ignore here, especially against a team that played last night and is playing again at noon today. Take the Wildcats to win and cover.

Creighton Bluejays vs Xavier Muskateers

Odds: Creighton -2.5, 141.5 at BetAmerica
Start Time: 2:30 p.m ET, Madison Square Garden, New York
Season Series: 1-1, 1-1 ATS, 0-2 O/U

Creighton finished the regular season strong with five consecutive wins. The Blue Jays can put the ball in the hoop, ranking 39th in the country in scoring with 79.3 points per game on 48.5 percent shooting (18th in the nation). While their defense has struggled on the season it has improved greatly over the last ten games holding opponents to an average of 67.2 ppg despite three of those games going into overtime. With their prolific offense and improving defense expect Creighton to win and cover the spread this afternoon.

St. John's Red Storm vs Marquette Golden Eagles

Odds: -3 Marquette, 148.5 at BetAmerica
Start Time: 7:00 p.m ET, Madison Square Garden, New York
Season Series: 2-0 (St John's), 2-0 ATS (St. John's), 0-1-1 O/U

Marquette has been arguably the top team in the Big East all season, but they lost both of their regular season matchups with the Johnnies, including getting creamed by 20 points in New York.

St. John's plays a very perimeter oriented game built around guards Shamorie Ponds, Mustapha Heron and L.J Figueroa, which makes this a perfect matchup for them against a Marquette team that (besides Big East Player of the Year Markus Howard) is slower and less athletic. In what is essentially a home game for St. John's at MSG, back them to cover.

Georgetown Hoyas vs Seton Hall Pirates

Odds: Seton Hall -2.5, 151.5
Start Time: 9:30 p.m ET, Madison Square Garden, New York
Season Series: 1-1, 1-1 ATS, 1-1 O/U

Georgetown plays at the tenth-fastest pace in the country, averaging 77.1 possessions per game. Quite predictably that makes them both one of the highest-scoring offenses (80.6 ppg) and lowest-ranked defenses (78.5 ppg).

The O/U was set at 156.5 for both of their regular season clashes and they combined for 165 points in the first go-around and 148 points in the second. Take the Over before it climbs.
