Red Sox World Series favorite heading into MLB playoffs, but stiff competition in American League

Oct 2, 2018 |

The MLB Postseason officially gets underway Tuesday night at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs host the Colorado Rockies in the National League Wild Card game. That means there are only 10 teams left for those bettors with World Series futures tickets to hold on to, but who is the favorite to win it all?

That would of course be the Boston Red Sox at 3/1 odds according to the Las Vegas Superbook. It should be no surprise the Red Sox are the favorites to win the Fall Classic boasting the top offense in baseball this season. They set a franchise record with 108 wins and led the league in runs scored, batting average and OPS.

But the Red Sox will have some competition in the American League. AL teams have the teams with the Top 2 odds to win the World Series with the Houston Astros at 7/2, and four of the top six. Additionally, the Superbook has an AL team the favorite to win the Fall Classic when it comes to early series price at -220, with the NL representative on the board at +180.

The team with the best odds in the National League is the Los Angeles Dodgers, currently listed at 7/1.

And the team with the longest odds to win? That would be the Oakland Athletics. The A’s has an incredible turn-around season, winning 97 games after finishing last in the AL West last season with just 75 victories. The A’s also had the longest odds to win the World Series entering the season of all those teams remaining, hitting the board as an 80-1 longshot.

Here’s the updated list of odds to win the 2018 World Series after last night's AL Wild Card game:

Boston Red Sox 10/1 3/1
Houston Astros 6/1 7/2
Los Angeles Dodgers 5/1 9/2
MIlwaukee Brewers 30/1 7/1
New York Yankees 8/1 7/1
Cleveland Indians 6/1 8/1
Colorado Rockies 40/1 10/1
Atlanta Braves 50/1 12/1
