Baltimore Orioles vs New York Yankees Box Score on Mar 31, 2019

Renato Nunez hit a three-run homer, Trey Mancini added a solo shot, Joey Rickard hit a two-run blast and John Means recorded his first career win as the Baltimore Orioles waited out a lengthy rain delay and claimed another series win at Yankee Stadium by holding on for a 7-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday.

Nunez hit Baltimore's first homer of the season when he slugged a 2-2 fastball from J.A. Happ (0-1) into the lower rows of the left-field bleachers four batters in to give Baltimore a 3-0 lead.

Mancini gave Baltimore a 4-0 lead in the third when he drove a 2-2 fastball on to the netting above Monument Park in center field.

Nunez, Mancini, and Rickard helped give the Orioles a second straight win after taking a 7-2 loss Thursday. Despite going 49-116 since the start of last season, the Orioles are 7-5 in New York.

Rickard padded the lead with a two-run homer in the eighth off Stephen Tarpley after Gary Sanchez homered to make it a one-run game.

Means entered the game after Dylan Bundy loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth. After allowing a bases-loaded walk to Brett Gardner and a two-run single to Aaron Judge, he struck out Giancarlo Stanton on three pitches with his breaking ball.

Means (1-0) allowed one run on five hits in 3 1/3 innings while making liberal use of his changeup. Of his 79 pitches, 35 were changeups and the left-hander used the pitch to strikeout Judge and Gary Sanchez.

Givens gave up an RBI single to DJ LeMahieu with two outs in the ninth but Paul Fry ended it by fanning pinch hitter Troy Tulowitzki.

An RBI single by Dwight Smith Jr. in the fifth accounted for Baltimore's other run.

The Orioles won after waiting through a rain delay of three hours, 17 minutes as moderate to heavy rain blanketed the field before the sun appeared after the first pitch.

The Yankees struck out 14 times, stranded 14 runners and went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Neither starter was able to settle in after the rain delay and pitch beyond four innings.

Bundy allowed three runs on two hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked five, struck out seven and threw 93 pitches.

Happ lost for the first time in 12 starts since joining the Yankees last July, allowing four runs on five hits in four innings.
