PITTSBURGH -- Sean Rodriguez, in his first game since rejoining Pittsburgh, hit a leadoff homer in the 12th inning Sunday to give the Pirates a 5-4 win over the San Diego Padres.
Rodriguez, claimed off waivers Saturday, hit a 2-1 pitch to left off of Buddy Baumann (0-1). It was the third career walkoff homer for Rodriguez, who missed the first half of the season recovering from an offseason car accident.
Dovydas Neverauskas (1-0) pitched two innings for his first major league win.
The Pirates (54-57) won for the second game in a row to take the weekend series from the Padres (49-61). It was Pittsburgh's first series win after dropping the previous four series.
San Diego (49-61), which tied it on Manuel Margot's two-run single in the ninth, lost for the third time in four games.
Pittsburgh closer Felipe Rivero entered in the eighth with a 4-2 lead and was looking for a four-out save but instead got his first blown save.
Rivero loaded the bases by walking Hunter Renfroe, Austin Hedges and pinch hitter Hector Sanchez. Margot tied with a base hit to left field.
Starling Marte led off the Pittsburgh 10th with a double to the left-field corner. Marte moved to third on pinch hitter Adam Frazier's groundout before Craig Stammen intentionally walked Andrew McCutchen and David Freese to load the bases.
San Diego closer Brad Hand came on and got Jose Osuna to ground into a double play.
Pittsburgh starter Jameson Taillon allowed two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. Taillon started slowly by allowing two runs in the first but retired 12 consecutive batters between the third and seventh.
All four runs San Diego starter Clayton Richard gave up were unearned, thanks to third baseman Cory Spangenberg's error at the start of the Pirates four-run third. Richard allowed five hits in six innings, with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Padres scored twice in the first.
Margot walked leading off and scored on Spangenberg's two-out RBI single. After Wil Myers singled Spangenberg to third, Spangenberg scored on a wild pitch by Taillon to make it 2-0.
Pittsburgh erased the deficit in the third.
McCutchen's single to left brought home Chris Stewart, who led off the inning by reaching on Spangenberg's error. After Freese was hit by pitch to load the bases, Osuna hit a bases-clearing double down the right field line to drive in three for a 4-2 Pirates lead.
