The only reason Marty started ahead of Luongo in the first place was his outstanding ability to handle the puck. If he doesn't have that ability, as appears to be the case, he shouldn't be starting. Luongo is better between the pipes than Brodeur, he just sucks with the puck on his stick.
Luongo will start, but don't sleep on Fleury. |

Apparently Henrik is suffering from a back injury...this could be trouble if he's not 100%.
Trouble for Sweden...and for my Canucks moving forward. Canucks' fans are a little leery of back injuries after what has happened this season (Cody Hodgson). |

The defending Olympic gold medalists are, somehow, a relative sleeper
to win gold this time around in Vancouver. Everyone is talking about
Russia and Canada (for good reason), but the betting value is
definitely an educated pick on one or more of the other teams involved
in the greatest hockey tournament of all time.
At Sports Interaction, Canada is listed as the favorites at a staggering -143 and the Russians are next in line at +200. Next, is where we see a massive value jump. Sweden is the third favorite at +650...that's right 13/2 on the defending champions who are bringing, arguably, a better roster to this year's event. Olympic hockey always comes down to goaltending. The Swedes will have an experienced Lundquist who has been there before and is back to playing at the top of his game right now...he had an awesome final start with the Rangers on Sunday and looks to be peaking at the right time. Team Sweden will be led offensively by Henrik and Daniel Sedin who are 1000x better players than they were four years ago. The twins will be playing in their home arena and will ensure that Team Sweden will have the crowd support advantage in all games other than a matchup against Canada. The Swedes will also lean on other stars like Forsberg, Alfredsson, and Backstrom to add some support scoring. Sweden caught a tough break when Red Wings' star Tomas Holmstrom was ruled out of the Olympics...but the pipeline of Swedish stars in Detroit lead directly to Johan Franzen who was named as his replacement late last week. The Swedish blue-line is, once again, one of the top defensive groups in the event and will be led by one of the greatest defensemen in the history of the sport, Nicklas Lidstrom. His support cast will include Kronwall, Ohlund, Enstrom, Tallinder, and (my pick as the break-out player of the tournament) Johnny Oduya of the Atlanta Thrashers. Yes, I'm Canadian. Yes, I want Canada to win gold. But, I'm betting with my head instead of my heart in this case and taking the value of Team Sweden at +650. If you want an even longer long-shot take a close look at Finland at +2000. Miika Kiprusoff is having a fantastic season and is certainly used to the hostile environment at Vancouver's GM Place as a member of the hated Calgary Flames. A roster that includes Saku and Mikko Koivu, Kapanen, Jokinen, Ruutu, Filppula, Lehtinen, Selanne, Timonen, Peltonen, and Hagman could very well be a factor when the gold medal match rolls around on February 28th. Happy wagering, and enjoy the show. |

With Ricky Henderson and Jim Rice getting elected to the Baseball Hall Of Fame this week it’s time to take a look ahead to next year’s voting, most notably will Andre Dawson finally get the votes required for induction?
Dawson received 67.0 % of the required 75.0 % for induction in 2009 and should, once again, be the top vote-getting among the carryovers. The only obstacle that I can see in his way are the first-timers on the ballot who could take away some of his crucial votes.
The list of first-timers in 2010 include Roberto Alomar, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Fred McGriff, Kevin Appier, Robin Ventura, Eric Karros, and Todd Zeile.
I can see Alomar being a first-ballot hall of famer, but other than him I see no one on the list who deserves that honor. Larkin will definitely get into the hall eventually, but I can’t see him getting in on the first try. Others who may get in eventually, but not on the first try, are Edgar Martinez, Andres Galarraga, and Fred McGriff.
I don’t see much in the way of vote stealers that will take away from Dawson’s numbers next January. Although a 9% increase is a very strong move, getting Jim Rice out of his hair will definitely help The Hawk’s cause considerably.
I could drop a whole lot of stats in this space (HRs, RBIs, MVP) but the only stat that should be needed for any voter to check the box next to Andre Dawson’s name is that he is one of only three players in major league history to hit over 400 home runs and steal over 300 bases in his career. The other two players to accomplish the feat are Barry Bonds and Willie Mays. ‘Nuff said.
Finally, The Hawk in 2010.

I'm guessing it must come in around $150 depending if you already have the hole saw and all necessary tools. It worked out to be about $250 Canadian ($220 or so for you American folks). The plywood and the cup-holders were the biggest expenses. They sprung for a sheet of maple plywood for the race-track which ran the price up a bit. You could certainly reduce the cost of the cup-holders by cutting it down to 8 and not getting the "jumbo" size ($4.99 each).
The velveteen and the vinyl were fairly cheep (about $20 each) and the legs were taken off an old discarded table from a community center.
...actually, the foam was a bit expensive too. They didn't have 1/4 inch thick at Walmart or any of those cheap places so they had to get it from a "foam warehouse". These specialty places jack up the prices when they sell to the walk-in public.

The table plays really well. The velveteen makes for a very good sliding surface.
My wife said it actually wasn't that tough to make. Her and her dad followed the directions exactly, she said the most difficult part was putting the vinyl on the rail without getting too many wrinkles. The cuts in the plywood are huge, but not too complicated.
Can't wait for my next game...I'm 1 for 2 on the new table.

I found these plans online a few months ago. I planned on building it myself in January, but my wife (and her father) built it for me for Christmas. It is very cool...about 8 feet long and plays really well.
Just thought I'd take a minute to brag about how good my poker room looks (and how cool my wife is).
Build it yourself...here are the plans.
