I don't hear Nettie crying. She is merely pointing out an inequity. But, like anything else, if the rules do not make the game fair for everyone, they can, and should be changed. Examples: A politician cannot vote to have his salary raised. A second baseman cannot drop an easy fly to double a runner from first. MLB instituted the infield fly rule. The NFL now prevents crack-back and helmet to helmet tackles. The NBA now prevents goal tending. FIDE instituted En-Passant. (Anybody remember that?) Etc., etc. Everyone changes the rules if an existing rule causes an imbalance.
The Push thing is a non- starter. Pushes are part of any sport that is handicapped. (But a blizzard canceling an indoor football game?) If you called that, I want to hire you as my personal handicapper. |
