A pretty darn good defense gives up about 245 total yards a game and only 48 on the ground - where most of Arizona's offense has been generated so far this year. That would be ...Utah -3

I like Fresno State here. They should have a lot of success with their running game against an awful UNLV rush defense and cover.

I'm not having a great year so far, but I expect to get healthy on Baylor this week. I don't think the Texas offense can keep up with Baylor's, not by a long shot. Baylor's defense has given up some points in the past two games, but in the words of BIll Murray in Meatballs, "It just doesn't matter". Why? Because Texas can't score. 23 against Kansas? 17 against a UCLA team that gave up double that to Memphis? 7 against BYU? Texas ranks 100th or worse in most offensive categories. Baylor ranks in the Top 5 except rushing, where they're 24th.
Baylor, - 16 1/2 GLTA

I expected a big letdown from VA Tech after going to Ohio State and winning. I also expect them to come back and play well again this week after what is probably a hard week of practice.

Didja see some of the scores from last week? Clemson put up over 70 against an FBS team...just as an example. With humans involved in who gets into the playoff, coaches are motivated to run up the score. Oregon is definitely in the running for the playoffs if they keep winning, and laying huge numbers on Wyoming is called for. Also, Mariota is a Heisman candidate, so they might let him play a little longer than usual to add to his numbers.
I don't think there's much chance of a back door cover by the Pokes because I'm pretty sure that Oregon's second string is better than Wyoming's first on both sides of the ball. I'll give the 43 for the game. It'll take an act of God to stop Oregon from covering.

I like Rice here. Notre Dame hasn't been great in home openers against mostly mediocre opponents, and they're always overpriced. They beat Temple last year by 22, but Temple had only two wins last year - Army and Memphis. Rice is no Temple. They've won 15 of their last 19, including a win over Marshall in the CUSA championship. They also have a QB that can run as well as throw, and I like him matching up against an ND front seven that will have five new starters this year.

The Falcons are 10-3 ATS. Pitt is 5-7. The most impressive number here is BGSU's defense, which gives up just over 14 points a game. They'll be facing a Pitt team that is 104th in total yards. Pitt will have trouble scoring.
BGSU - 5 1/2

These two teams look similar on paper, but the level of competition they played is very different. CSU gave up 41 points to Colorado, and 42 each to UTEP and New Mexico. When WSU was giving up lots of points, it was to bowl teams like ASU, Oregon, etc..
Washington State -5

I like Navy here. I agree it's a lot of points for a rivalry game, but after awhile, the talent difference can't make up for the rivalry factors (see Indiana vs. Purdue this year for another example of the outcome of a rivalry game between an OK team and a bad one), and this is one of those games.
Army beat really bad teams this year...Eastern Michigan and Louisiana Tech at the FBS level, and that's about it. They lost by 14 to Air Force in a pick 'em. Navy has done much better against much tougher competition. Having said that, glad I got in early. Navy, - 10 1/2

Kansas' offense is ranked 119th in total yards and averages just 15 points a game. Their defense is ranked in the 90s in every major category. Charlie Weis is their coach.
West Virginia isn't great this year, but they will be motivated because winning vs. Kansas and Iowa State makes them bowl eligible. For a team from a party school, that's plenty. West Virginia, - 6 1/2

Purdue doesn't have the talent to beat a single team in the Big 10 this year. Iowa is motivated, as they become eligible with the win...and they may not win another game after this one. Purdue has scored about 7 points in the past 10 quarters or so. Iowa has a good defense, so they shouldn't score many in the next 4 quarters.
Hawkeyes - 14 1/2

36-7. 27-21. 33-31. These are the three scores, all OSU wins, from the last three times these teams played each other in Corvallis. In each game USC was favored, by 3, 24 and 10 1/2, respectively. Obviously, USC has some problems in Corvallis.
While it's true that SC's defense has posted some good performances and numbers, a closer look is pretty revealing. They have played three teams with pass offenses ranked in the top 25: Hawaii, Washington State and Arizona State. They beat Hawaii, who has a pass offense and nothing else, but lost to Washington State, and Arizona State hung a huge number on them. Oregon State has a better ranked pass offense than any of those teams. Stanford beat OSU last week because Stanford is a better team. USC isn't, not even within 5 points. OSU -5

If someone told you that Baylor was playing a team that had beaten Louisiana-Lafayette and UMass but lost to North Dakota State, would you take Baylor and give 17 points? You bet your behind. K-State hasn't really improved much since getting off to such a shaky start.
Bears -17.
