I thought about Edmonton after you wrote your first comment, as it made complete sense but didn't pull the trigger. I still like Calgary in the first. |

I didnt't think of it that way but agree with you 100%. Many times it is the team that is on the back-to-back that has a stronger first period than the team that is well rested.

Looking close at the first periods tonight...
are the books expecting a strong first period from the Flames, I know I am.
tell me why Columbus is -160 for full game, Calgary is -138 for the full game...yet Columbus is -134 ML for the first period and Calgary is -135 for the first period.
Sakic is out. The Flames got torched their last first period against SJ 4-0 and at home. I think we have a winner here on the Flames first period.
any thoughts?

Yes, realisically I am risking 6.95, but Jersey will score a minimum of two goals. My strongest plays and my more successfull plays stem from betting on what will not happen. Atlanta is not limiting Jersey to a single goal or shuting them out. With that being said, I am risking 4.05 units to potentially win 5 units.
Jimmus, if Atlanta limits Jersey to one goal or shuts them out with Hedberg in net I will stop betting hockey and start taking my chances with cricket.

NJ in reg.-.5 (-135) risking 4.05 to win 3
ATL/NJ OVER 5 (-145) risking 2.9 units to win 2
I was looking at making this play with Lehtonen in net. Now that I see Hedberg is starting tonight I'm hitting this one hard. This is a great spot for Jersey...at home Saturday night coming off back-to-back defeats to Philly then losing in a shutout to the Leafs, a game they should have won.
I can't see Atlanta with Hedberg in net holding a Jersey offense that has been scoring to one goal or less. I figure Jersey is scoring a minimum of two goals. If I can be as sure as I possibly can that Jersey is scoring twice the combination of these two plays makes for a strong play.
Keep in mind the larger of the two plays is on Jersey -.5 in reg. The way I see it I am getting an open shot at the over.
If Jersey scores twice, the only way my reg. play is a loss is if the score is tied 2-2 and goes into overtime, in which case my total pushes and I lose 4.05 units.
If Atlanta is winning 3-2 at any point in the game I can't lose my total play (good chance of the over hitting since Atlanta can't and is not used to holding a lead or they score themsleves and my over hits) while I still have a chance at a Jersey comeback which even if they don't do it in regulation I still win the total play and end up losing 2.05 units.
In the end what I am doing (if I can safely say that Jersey will score two goals) is that I am putting myself in a positoin to potentially win 5 units while only risking 4.05. That looks damn good when you consider that my two seperate plays are -135 and -145.
Hope the board catches fire tonight!

Looks like Toskala is now expected to start. Would feel better about the play is Joseph started but the Leafs are in trouble no matter who is in net. Now if Weekes gets the call I'm gonna be really pissed.

played the Leafs under 3 goals last night, playing NJ -.5 in reg. tonight
Joseph will have to outduel Brodeur for me to lose this play. Leafs on a back to back. Jersey coming off back to back loses to Philly and playing at home. Great spot for Jersey if you ask me.

With you on both accounts. Playing van -.5 in reg., a strong play for me, but it hurts so damn bad to do it. One thing that is key tonight is that they are at home. I'll make a stew out of my dirty socks before I make a play on Vancouver on the road.

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone in the forum on this play.
toronto under 3 -115
(local slow on adjusting lines for team totals...already at -128 at pinny)
T.B is a desperate team playing on the road. Sure they've only won one game but its scoring they've been having trouble with, not keeping the puck out of the net.
I've always liked Mike Smith and he has put up some good numbers this year. He's from Kingston, Ont. and should be focused and ready to go playing at the ACC.
I like the under to begin with. With that being said I don't see Toronto lighting the lamp 4 times for this play to lose.
The mullet will have his boys ready tonight.
