Rooms are clean, Casino is pretty fun, cocktail waitresses all have huge breasts and hottest I think of any casino.... drink service is great, low limit tables.... poker room is ok if busy, but most the time maybe 1 or 2 tables going and a waiting list, but if you interested in poker then head next door to the Flamingo, way better and if a wait it's short, they have lots of tables going. Room tip... request for a lower room or one at least close to the elevators.... the elevators can suck, long wait, and some rooms are a mile from the elevator. IP a dump? Well it's clean, and old, it's no Caesars thats for sure, just your basic dark dungy looking Casino which you know what I like that, I prefer those or places like Golden Nugget rather than the snotty stuck up places like Venetian or Wynn..... bunch of guys you said just go get fuckin sloppy and hammered, gamble and have a great time!!!! |

Gimp, Fellow Jarhead here. The IP is OK if you are just sleeping/crashing. Definitely low class, but the beds are clean. For an IP price, check out Harrah's or Excalibur. However, IP has an ideal middle-strip location. Have fun, bro. |

Agree with VG; NYNY is the best choice if not staying at the MGM.
Lux is better than Ex and a free monorail will drop you off at the corner anyway.
If you REALLY want to save some coin, Hooters is directly across the street from the MGM. Low rates...low amenities.
Have fun regardless.

Sashimi- I've eaten at Shibuya a couple times. It's good, but nothing special. I love Japanese food/sushi too. Honestly, I was just too lazy to walk out of the hotel for a better selection. It's consistent but nothing spectacular. If you must eat in the MGM and want a great dining experience, I recommend Craftsteak. |

My 2 cents, bro. NC1 and VG might disagree but it is an opinion regardless.
First of all, there are no free drinks. You either get drink tickets, tip well, or play the puppie/ponies. Any way you look at it, you are paying. I have stayed at the MGM many times and learned to mitigate the money spent on drinks. However, the hassle of the excessive traffic rolling through the book gets old. I sometimes just prefer to buy a $3 Miller Lite and watch games on the IP's 50" old-ass TV's. Or going to the MB's book offers a younger vibe. Or watching at the Ex's bar/book has a fun, blue collar feel to it.
Anyway, I'm rambling. When I stay at the MGM (and play there) I head to the race side and show my room card. They will give you a free racing forum on request. Then I play a few random $2 win bets on a dog that should never win. After that I place my sports bets and ask for drink tickets as I slide the teller $10. He/she usually reciprocates with more than a few. Try to cash winners with the same teller and tip them for W's. After that I set up shop and watch games.
The waitress initally will grab a drink ticket off the table as I order. Or she will ask if I am playing the dogs. I show race tix and the Racing Forum. All is well...
Here's the rub...and why I say you will always pay. Even though you rate free drinks with playing the dogs/ponies and with drink tix, you only have one opportunity to ensure your waitress wants to spend her "valuable" time fetching a drunk more alcohol. Tip her consistently! She will not come back if other customers are out-bidding you via tips.
I am a minnow. $5-25 BJ tables. $50-$100 sports bets. If I slip the waitress a red for every round, she will come back. Am I overpaying? Not too sure. However, when I am backed up with 3 Heinekens on the table because I can't keep up with her desire to keep being tipped, life isn't so bad. When my drinks come without being requested (because I told her to keep them coming) and patrons around me can't seem to get her attention, all is really fuckin' well!
Bottom line: Nothing is truly free at the MGM. Bellagio is the better scene for free drinks in a book.
Best idea: Place your bets at the MGM and go across the street to the either the MB or the sports bar at NYNY. It is a bar/restaurant but not too expensive.
Regardless, have fun.

MB has some stellars but they are like statues...no emotion, limited chit chat, etc. Of course, my $25 BJ table action may have clued them in that I'm no millionaire. |

I'm not proud, but I have to agree with the IP. There are hotties everywhere...that's a given. However, the IP seems to attract the dirty, talkative ones with nice bodies. Just my opinion. The Cosmo has some smoking Asians if that is your thing. I had trouble concentrating on my action 'cause of those attractive imports. |

NC1, Welcome back from the Nugget! I think your analysis is on the mark. UNC should easily handle Udub. I personally think 6 would be comfortable chalk. Duke should undoubtedly win SU towards the end. They are more disciplined and will make their FT's towards the end. But 11.5-12? That is too much. Heck, I just talked myself out of playing that game...but, gun to my head, Mich is the play. GL. |

DJ, My apologies. I had it in my head that you were looking to live off $100 a day. Your bankroll will do you well. As mentioned before, I am a minnow. My max bet is a nickel...but I am more comfortable with buck bets. If you intend to lay some heavy action at a book vice the tables, ensure they are AWARE, i.e. players card, etc. I'm unsure exactly how one would get rated at a book though because my action is too small to even register on the richter scale...so I don't bother. Again...any offers I ever get are based on my BJ time. |

I'm assuming you are in Ontario. If you fly out of London or Toronto, check out Westjet. If you are close to the MI border, take Allegiant out of Grand Rapids. Stay at an IP, Hooters, Excalibur, etc. A quality room costs money. Comps are pretty much impossible up front. Do yourself a favor and join the M Life program for MGM. Then hit the Detroit MGM and get rated. In this economy, you will start getting offers for Vegas MGM hotels with comps. I am a minnow, but get rated because I have a tendency to spend my entire day in a blackjack pit. If you want free drinks at a sportsbook but only play minimum bets, plan on playing the ponies...and tip the cocktail waitresses well. They won't come back if you are cheap. Lastly, there are some phenomenal strip clubs in Vegas. If that is your thing, bring some cash. They are not cheap and you will be outbidded by every other MF in the room. It's called "pesonality"...if you have the pesos, the girls will find your personality compelling. Do yourself a solid and read the first 2 pages of this forum. They will be more detailed. Vegas is not cheap, my friend. You can do it on a budget, but you get what you pay for. |

Bro, it's good that you have a plan. My first trip was spontaneous and I made too many trips to the ATM and credit card advance windows. Before I knew it, I was over my head. The MGM is a decent location. 500 for food is OK if you stay with the fast food, IMO. The MGM has a food court hidden away with Chinese, pizza, etc. Hooters is across the street if you need to feed a $5 table itch. The Excalibur is across the street too. It's pretty low end but if you are down and out towards the end of the trip...present your MGM Players card at the Sports Book's Bar and you can get a decent hot dog and a draft beer for something like 3.99. Further up the strip, there are cheap tables at O'Shea's, IP, and Casino Royale (I think). There is a BK inside O'shea's that I tend to hit as I am doing a walk of shame near Ceasar's. Enjoy yourself and take your time. 24 hours a day is a long time. Get sleep. I wish I took my own advice on my first few trips. Last thing: Don't bother with the strip clubs. They are overpriced. You will have drunk trim all around you. Girlfriend or not, you will have options. Have fun. |

Kind of off on a tangent, but one of the funnest times I ever had in Nevada was watching a baseball game at the GSR in Reno. It was a Cubs day game (11:15 local start time?). No other sports action (except ponies) was happening and I was sitting near a bunch of old-timers. Some were local...some were tourists like me. Anyway, by the 9th inning, we were all drunk and having a great time with our new "friends". I still find it interesting that the allure of gambling can bring strangers together...even if it was only for 1 game. |

Yuice~ For what it's worth, I spent a Saturday morning there during the NFL Wildcard weekend. My brother wanted to walk the strip from the Mandalay to the Hilton and we stumbled in around 9 AM. The place is beautiful! The book was hidden and relatively small (compared to Caesars or MB). We played some BJ at the 25 min tables because they were the lowest limits we could find. (Yes, I'm a minnow) The place exudes money/fashion. This isn't Hooter's, Excalibur, or the IP. Very beautiful people everywhere and it was only a Saturday AM. We probably would have been intimidated if we didn't actually dress decently that morning. Asians (hot as well..the women that is) everywhere: servers, dealers, management, pit bosses, customers, etc. It seemed like we were definitely in the minority. I obviously didn't see the rooms. I'd recommend their casino if you have a decent bankroll and aren't a shorts/wifebeater guy. Have fun! |
